I didn't find this anywhere in my various 'search' attempts:

Kevin Pravia was found in his Chelsea apt by his roommate on Monday. He was found laying face up, covered with a blanket, with plastic stuffed in his mouth and an electrical cord wrapped around his neck. There was no sign of a break-in or struggle but his laptop and phone are missing.

Kevin was last seen leaving South Street Seaport drunk in a cab. LE is trying to identify the cab driver.

There are a lot of comments after the daily news article. Unfortunately some of the comments people are leaving are disgusting. How can people be so disrespectful of someone who has been brutally murdered. He was 19 with his whole life ahead of him and all these selfish, thoughtless people can think of nothing better to say than racist, sexist, generally vile comments. I am so glad WS is a moderated forum.

It looks like they have the person who did this and are going to charge him. The police were questioning a suspect in another (unrelated?) theft when he confessed and told them what happened.

He said that Kevin Pravia was in Union Square Park trying to buy drugs when he met him, they went back to his apartment and after Kevin fell asleep he strangled him and robbed the apartment.

This perp was just a murder waiting to happen.:furious:

Jeromie Cancel, 22, brutalized 19-year-old Kevin Pravia, sat near the honor student's corpse to watch the horror movie "Saw" and then bragged about the murder to his father, the sources said.
"All the time he was gloating, like it didn't mean nothing to him," said his father, Jesus Soto, recounting Cancel's bizarre appearance at his Queens apartment.
"He was not remorseful, like he was happy with what he did," said Soto, 40. "He had this big smile on him."
Asked why he did it as he was marched out of the 10th Precinct stationhouse after being charged with murder and manslaughter last night, Cancel shouted, "Because I wanted to. You got a problem with that?"

Walking around Union Sq. Park at 5am in the morning isn't the greatest idea in the world......however he was incredibly unlucky to run into this guy. It is just plain scary that there are enough murderous weirdo's running around that you can just be a victim of opportunity.

RIP Kevin. You did not deserve this.

This guy is a sociopath if there ever was one. Well guess what Big Boy...the state is going to put you away for life...Because They Want To :banghead:

And it should be a slam-dunk case because he bragged about it.

I feel sorry for Kevin, his family and the sociopath's family. I wonder if they (Cancel's parents) saw this coming.

I don't understand how he can admit he did it out of boredom and then turn around and clog up our courts with a non-guilty plea.

The readers' comments with the newspaper reports are interesting. Why is everyone taking the murderer's word about their meeting & his being invited into Pravia's apartment?

Cancel may have observed the obviously intoxicated boy getting out of the cab, followed him in & pushed his way into the apartment. I cannot believe a cold-blooded killer.

NEW YORK (CBS/AP) Twenty-four-year-old Jeromie Cancel smirked and applauded as he was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years to life in prison for the 2008 murder of a New York college student.

Cancel received the maximum possible sentence from Supreme Court Justice Daniel FitzGerald who called his apparently remorseless attitude "chilling and inhuman."

glad this one is off the streets, but his defense attorney sounds almost as cold-hearted with his plea to the judge to consider that "unlike Mr. Pravia, (Cancel) has a life in front of him."

what a slap in the face to Kevin's family.
