Agency: White County Sheriff's Department
TV Episode 1 - Original run date: August 22, 2005 on KTHV Channel 11
Arkansas' Unsolved
#101 Missing Person - Suspicion of Foul Play
Subject/Victim
: Douglas Gene Kirk
Date Missing
: August 5, 1995
Reported Missing
: August 18, 1995
Last Seen
: Leaving 108 TN Hair Rd, McRae, AR between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm in a
white 1994 Nissan pickup belonging to James Matthews, the resident at that address.
Was leaving with Vickie Crisco of Beebe, AR, who was driving a maroon van.
Leads
: A number of individuals have failed polygraph / voice stress analysis tests on
various key questions such as whether they killed Doug Kirk, were present when he
was killed, have knowledge of his whereabouts, or are withholding information relevant
to his disappearance.
Key Sites
: 1) 108 TN Hair Rd, McRae, AR; 2) Area at the end of Roper Rd, McRae,
AR - some searching has been done relatively recently here; 3) Area at the end of
Coley Rd, McRae, AR - dive teams have searched a very large irrigation pond at this
location; 4) 109 Kirkwood Rd, Beebe, AR (residence of Vicky Crisco at the time of
Kirk's disappearance)
Case Summary
: Douglas Gene Kirk disappeared from McRae, AR on August 5, 1995.
According to reports, he was last seen leaving the residence of James Matthews at 108
TN Hair Road in McRae with Vickie Crisco between 5:00 and 6:00 pm on the 5th. Kirk
was driving Matthews' white Nissan pickup, and Crisco was driving her maroon van.
Kirk was never verifiably seen or heard from again. Crisco returned later in a panic,
looking for the spare keys to the Nissan Pickup claiming Kirk had run out of gas, had a
flat, and locked himself out of the truck. According to reports, Kirk and Crisco were
headed to make a drug buy. Doug never returned. The white Nissan truck was
transported to California in a semi trailer, wiped clean, and abandoned at the Flying J
truck stop in Lebec, CA. The leading theory is that Kirk never left White County alive.
Since the airing of the program, other theories have come to light. One such theory is
that Kirk traveled to California in another truck, made a drug buy, and made it back as
far as Oklahoma, where he may have been murdered and dumped.
Case Narrative
: Pending
Probability that case can be solved: Very high

Date of birth: June 11, 1960, which would make him 49 now (I know, too young, but thought I'd throw it out anyway)

Height: 6'1"
Weight: 135 (could have gained weight since disappearance)
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Blue (the eyes are what got me)

The listings say he had a metal screws in head due to injury. ANy evidence of screws--I thought I read the other day that someone suggested maybe BK had screws in his face at one time. Am I completely nuts or is there any chanced this could be him?

I don't recall any mention of BK having screws in his head and would assume their presence would have shown up during CAT scan, or during the exam by the specialist in Atlanta who examined Bk (or maybe just the scan) for evidence of brain damage or injury (as mentioned on Dr Phil show). This specialist cleared BK of having any brain injury at all.

I think you may be referring to a posting in the last few days that suggested the possibility that the scar on BKs left cheek area could have been caused by a contraption that was screwed in place to hold a broken mandable, etc. The poster even posted pics...

Gee, I hate to be the one that says no, I don't think so.
But, I don't think so.

Con: height, weight, gap in teeth, screws in head, smile,
Pro: blue eyes

I really think Douglas Gene Kirk is dead. I think his family is correct.
Although, I would hope that when his truck was found, it was examined throughly.

So dream, are you saying I am nuts? LOL j/k! I knew it was a longshot, but at the same time, I really think that the identity of BK is right under our noses and we are somehow missing it. Thanks guys for your input!

Uh, no, not nuts.

I think we do need to look at the missing with a fresh eye.
It is just with this person, the screws in the head, just
made me decide no.

BK's identity.
Yes, I have always thought that once we know who he is, we will think,
what the hey, I should have thought of that.

hey jules, where did the younger photo of bk in the middle of the grouping come from? did he have it with him when he was found?

It is an age regression done by the Dr Phil show...

Ears look different to me too.
About the gap, it's in one pic but doesn't appear to be a gap in another.

What's weird is the smile, BK also smiles more on right side

...The day was Aug. 5, 1995. He'd told his parents he was leaving to do some construction work in California and be back soon. Two days later, though, there was a knock on the door.

"One of his friends came by and said we need to search for him. Look for him," says Doug's father, Rip Kirk...

And:

...In years past, detectives told Today's THV that evidence suggests Kirk never left White County...

Families Hold Onto Hope DNA Evidence Will Find Loved Ones

For families with missing members the years of uncertainty can be difficult to say the least.

As DNA technology improves, the likelihood of using it to identify someone is also increasing.

Family members of those who have gone missing, came out to make sure law enforcement have the most current biological data to hopefully make a match.

"Doug went missing 17 years ago," said Novella Kirk.

For almost two decades the Kirk family have been in the dark about what happened to their middle son Doug.[FONT=Microsoft Sans Serif, sans-serif]

Bumping for Douglas, today is his birthday. His updated Charley Project profile: Douglas Eugene Kirk – The Charley Project. Possibly Woodlawn John Doe The Doe Network: Case File 314UMGA? He was found in Barrow County, Georgia on 9 December 1999. While it is believed that he was 55-60 at the time of his death, it is noted from his skull that he'd had reconstructive surgery on his face to repair traumatic injuries; possibly due to a car accident. Douglas is known to have been in a car accident that caused similar injuries that required him to have surgery as well. Thoughts?

He has a gap between his upper front teeth, a cleft in his chin and slight scarring near the area of his right eye. Kirk had reconstructive surgery to repair his facial bones with metal screws and plates as the result of a 1989 automobile accident. As a result of the accident, his face is fragile and a hard blow to that area could kill him. His nickname is Doug and some agencies refer to him as Douglas Gene Kirk.

Details of Disappearance

Kirk was last seen by his family on August 3, 1995, when he visited his grandmother's home in Arkansas. He apparently attended a concert with a female friend in Little Rock, Arkansas on August 5, 1995. He reportedly spent the night at a motel near Little Rock.

Kirk was scheduled to meet his girlfriend near a reservoir in his hometown of McRae, Arkansas the same night, but he never arrived. He has not been seen again. He was supposed to go to California to do some construction work, so his family was initially unconcerned about his absence. His parents reported him missing on August 18.

The friend who attended the concert with Kirk told authorities that he borrowed her boyfriend's white 1994 Nissan pickup truck on August 5 and lost the keys to the vehicle that same evening. Her boyfriend was also Kirk's boss. His friend claimed that she brought Kirk a second set of keys and that was the last time he was seen.

The truck was discovered abandoned approximately one month following Kirk's disappearance. The vehicle was located in the parking lot of The Flying J Truck Stop in California in September 1995. There was no sign of Kirk at the scene and no evidence to suggest what happened to him. His parents and the police do not believe he drove the truck to California himself.

Kirk's loved ones do not believe he left of his own accord; they stated he was happy with his life in 1995 and was not having any problems. At the time of his disappearance he earned a living doing odd jobs, mostly carpentry work. He was also the single parent of a young son. He was involved with the drug culture in his area, and this may have caused his disappearance.

Kirk's family helped establish legislation in Arkansas that created a clearinghouse for missing adults and automatically entered the missing persons into a statewide database. His family believes that foul play was involved in Kirk's disappearance. His case remains unsolved.
