Santa Clara County District Attorney has posted the image of a quilt that was wrapped around Cathy Zimmer when she was found strangled in her car at the San Jose airport in March, 1989.

It's a long shot, but they are asking if anyone recognizes the quilt. It's very simple, and just made from squares. The fabrics look like they are from a mixture of eras.

The family did not recognize the quilt.

This undated photo provided by the Santa Clara County District Attorney shows a quilt that was found on the body of Cathy Zimmer, who was strangled 25 years ago. Authorities in Silicon Valley are trying to identify the maker or owner of the quilt. The Santa Clara County District's Attorney's Office released a photo of the quilt on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014. They hope someone will recognize it and come forward with information that will lead to whoever killed 38-year-old Cathy Zimmer. SANTA CLARA COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY — AP Photo

I just saw this on the internet and came here to see what we had about Cathy Zimmer.

That is a distinctive quilt, and I sure hope it leads to some answers in this case.

Mystery Quilt May Help Solve 25-Year-Old Murder Of Cathy Zimmer

California authorities are hopeful a handmade quilt found covering the body of Cathy Zimmer, a mother of two who was murdered 25 years ago, will finally lead to a break in the case.

Mercury News also reported that King said Zimmer's husband of 11 years, David Zimmer, had asked police to check the airport parking lots. According to Kajani, the couple was separated at the time of Cathy Zimmer's murder.

David Zimmer, 66, of Half Moon Bay, was arrested Friday in the slaying of his estranged wife, Cathy Zimmer. Her body was found wrapped in a patchwork quilt in the backseat of her Chrysler New Yorker in a parking lot at San Jose International Airport in 1989, the Santa Clara County district attorney's office said.

David Zimmer's brother, Robert Zimmer, 69, of Santa Clara, was arrested last week on similar charges.

Gosh. I just came across the quilt story when I was searching for info on the murder of Cathy Torrez. So glad to see there has been an arrest in the case of Cathy Zimmer though.

I wonder where the quilt came from?

The two brothers, David and Robert, are going to be tried together despite the vigorous objections of both their attorneys. The prelim hearing date is set for May 23rd, 2014.

David was the recipient of about $400,000, because of Cathy's death, despite the fact they were estranged at the time. Just saying.

Also, the judge entered the not guilty plea for Robert Z (Cathy's brother in law) after his own attorney declined to do it for him??

Heaven only knows what that means.

In an unusually quick turnaround, the trial of a man accused of helping to kill his estranged wife 25 years ago will start in early September -- a scant six months after the man and his brother were arrested in the cold-case murder of the San Jose mother of two.

Homicide cases often take at least three times longer to get to trial. But David Zimmer, 66, of Half Moon Bay, told a Santa Clara County Superior Court judge Monday that he intends to invoke his legal right to a speedy trial, slashing the amount of time prosecutors have to prepare their case against him in the 1989 killing of his wife Cathy Zimmer...

The move is intended to force prosecutor Ted Kajani to either drop the murder charges or risk going to trial Sept. 8 with a weaker case than he might have if he had been able to keep investigating while David Zimmer remained locked up behind bars without bail.

I'm just wondering if the quilt played a role in leading to the arrest. I have several of these quilts, made by hubby's Grandmother. They are just made from scrap pieces, but are considered folk art....

A veteran Santa Clara County prosecutor will no longer try the husband and brother-in-law of a woman found strangled to death in 1989 in her car - and covered by a distinctive quilt - because he had an affair with the criminalist who testified about DNA evidence in the case, authorities said Sunday.

Deputy District Attorney Ted Kajani, who has been the leader of the cold case unit, has been yanked from the case because he failed to disclose his relationship with criminalist Amanda Cardenas to District Attorney Jeff Rosen or defense attorneys, officials said. Kajani has been reassigned to other duties.

The affair began before Cardenas testified in May at a preliminary hearing for David Zimmer and his brother, Robert Zimmer, authorities said. She also testified before a grand jury that would indict the two on charges that they killed David Zimmer's estranged wife, Cathy Zimmer.

A prosecutor's failure to disclose more than 10,000 pages of evidence -- coming on the heels of his affair with a key witness -- is threatening to torpedo the trial of two brothers accused of a 25-year-old "cold case" murder.

The trove of undisclosed evidence came to light after District Attorney Jeff Rosen assigned a new prosecutor to take over the case from deputy district attorney Ted Kajani because of Kajani's affair with a crime lab evidence technician. The affair could lead a judge to exclude key DNA findings linking Robert Zimmer to the body of Cathy Zimmer, his brother David Zimmer's wife, whose strangled body was found in her car at the airport wrapped in a colorful patchwork quilt.

Prosecutors are required to disclose any evidence that might help the accused, normally at least 30 days before trial and under Rosen's promises of transparency, much sooner. The more than 10,000 pages of evidence weren't turned over until last week, about two weeks before the start of the Zimmers' scheduled Oct. 1 trial. That, coupled with Kajani's affair, could force Rosen to dismiss the murder charges against both brothers and release Robert from jail.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office has dismissed charges in the 1989 murder of Cathy Zimmer against her ex-husband and his brother, citing an affair by a prosecutor with a lab technician, prosecutors said Tuesday...

In a statement this morning, Assistant District Attorney Marc Buller indicated that murder charges could be filed again in the future, stating that “prosecutors will now reassess the case” and that such felony cases “that have not gone before a jury may be dismissed and re-filed.”

No justice for Cathy because someone couldn't keep their pants zipped. :banghead:

I think it's an Aloha-quilt, made out of aloha shrts. Probably made and sold in Hawaii.
