Yeah it is unusual for January but yesterday was an incredibly warm and stormy day (tornado weather, temps in the high seventies and high winds).

We lost power for 6 hours, fortunately I was so busy trying to get the generator to start (unsuccessfully) that I didn't have time to worry about tornadoes.

I'm a severe weather spotter for the NWS and we learned that tornadoes can, and have, happened in every month on the calender, and also in every state in the U.S.

i flew into DC yesterday and the landing was terrifying! those were some biiiiig storm clouds.

The Tallahassee area and coastal area south and west was under a tornado warning yesterday and flood warnings....Tally floods easily with all the hills and low areas...The tornado passed along the coast about 10 miles below me and didn't come on land here, thank goodness!

Wjbf.com local news just reported live that North Augusta SC received 6.20 inches of rain in one hour last night, Grove Apartments where flooded, residents did evacuate.
Also Reeds Creek on Fury's Ferry Rd area in Martinez, Ga. also overflowed and flooded some areas. I knew it is was a hard rain, but I went to sleep and slept like a baby.

Augusta, GA -
Overnight thunderstorms have caused flash flooding in parts of the CSRA. Doppler radar estimates that portions of Richmond, Columbia, Edgefield, and Aiken Counties have received 4-8" of rain. This has lead to road closures and some evacuations

THE AREA...MUCH OF THE CWA WILL STILL BE IN A MOIST AIRMASS.
EXPECT TO HAVE SOME LINGERING SHOWER/STORM ACTIVITY EARLY TONIGHT
BEFORE DISSIPATING. BEST CHANCE SHOULD BE ACROSS THE SOUTHERN
COUNTIES. BY THURSDAY THE SURFACE LOW THAT IS IN THE GULF OF
MEXICO WILL BE MOVING NORTHWARD TOWARDS THE GULF COAST. AS AN
UPPER LEVEL TROUGH BEGINS TO APPROACH THE AREA...MOISTURE WILL BE
FLOWING NORTHWARD IN ADVANCE OF THE SURFACE LOW. PW VALUES WILL
