Martha Bertha Martinez Maxwell
Missing since May 1992 from Fort Worth, Texas

Classification: Endangered Missing

* Age at Time of Disappearance: 41 years old
* Height and Weight at Time of Disappearance:
* Distinguishing Characteristics: White/Hispanic female. Brown hair; brown eyes.

Circumstances of Disappearance
Martha Martinez Maxwell was reported missing by her family in 1992. Her family last heard from her on Mother's Day in 1992. Her car was still at home, her passport untouched and her credit cards left behind.
Her husband told police that she had left on her own.

Investigators reopened the case in 2011 following the arrest of Jeffrey Allan Maxwell, her former husband, on charges of abducting and torturing another woman. He was accused of kidnapping, beating, raping and holding his former neighbor, a 62-year-old woman from Whitt, for 12 days — confined in a secret compartment in Maxwell’s Corsicana home. He then torched her house on March 3, 2011 to get rid of evidence. Maxwell was arrested March 12, 2011 and is being held on bond in the Parker County jail.

He divorced Martha in 1995, and has never been charged in her disappearance.

In early 1987, Martinez was found on a road in Carter County, Oklahoma, beaten, sexually assaulted and her throat cut. She woke up in the hospital and only remembered her husband attacking her, binding her, drugging her and beating her. Martha Maxwell stopped cooperating and a grand jury never returned an indictment in the case investigated by the Watauga police department. By the end of the year, the Maxwells were back living together. Maxwell was a dedicated mother and that may have played a part in her decision to return to the man she said abused her.

March 21, 2011: Suspect looked at for cold case, disappearance

An affidavit in Jeff Maxwell's case listed a bed with chains, leather restraints and sexual devices among items seized from the home. An investigator connected to the case reported seeing an electric winch used for stringing up animal carcasses.

The affidavit said Maxwell confessed to kidnapping and sexually assaulting the woman. He claimed he had been paid to make the reclusive 62-year-old “go away,” the affidavit said, but refused to tell investigators who paid him.

And while Texas Rangers continue to interview Maxwell, investigators are exploring possible connections to at least two disappearances in the last two decades, including his wife’s.

Fowler said his department was re-examining the 2000 disappearance of Amelia Smith. Much like the current case, the 51-year-old woman’s house and car near Azle were destroyed in a suspicious fire on the same night she went missing.

Amelia Smith, 51

Missing Since: February 3, 2000 from Weatherford, Texas

Classification: Endangered Missing
Date Of Birth: February 15, 1948
Age: 51 years old
Height and Weight: 5'3, 111 pounds
Distinguishing Characteristics: Caucasian female. Brown hair, brown eyes. Smith wears eyeglasses. Her ears are pierced. Smith's nickname is Amy.
Medical Conditions: Smith has been diagnosed with non-contagious tuberculosis.

Details of Disappearance

Smith was employed at a taxi company in Irving, Texas in 2000. She departed from the business after her shift ended at 10:00 p.m. on February 3, 2000. Authorities believe that Smith drove to her trailer home in Weatherford, Texas alone shortly afterwards. Smith's husband was visiting his mother at the time, and their children were not at the residence either.
Neighbors reported that her trailer home was on fire at approximately 4:00 a.m. the following morning. By the time authorities arrived at the residence, it was fully engulfed in flames. Investigators discovered that someone also attempted to set fire to the interior of Smith's vehicle, which was located near her home. She resided alone at the time and authorities were unable to discover evidence suggesting she was a victim of the fire. Smith has never been heard from again.

Investigators believe that an arsonist was responsible for the fire at Smith's residence. An extensive search of the surrounding areas produced no clues as to her whereabouts. Her husband stated Smith is deeply religious and a responsible person who would not have abandoned her children. Foul play is suspected in Smith's case, which remains unsolved.

March 2011 -- DALLAS, Texas -- A Texas man was paid to make a 62-year-old Texas woman go missing; he kidnapped and tortured her, "strung her up" on a deer-skinning rack, according to an affidavit. Jeffrey Maxwell is in the Parker County Jail charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault. Maxwell tortured his former neighbor for two weeks in his own "house of horrors," after she had repeatedly spurned his advances.

Maxwell's arrest prompted authorities to take another look at the case of his ex-wife, who lived in Forth Worth and vanished without a trace in 1992. Martha Martinez Maxwell first went missing in 1987, she was found beaten with her throat cut near Ardmore, Okla. She survived those injuries and Jeffrey Maxwell was charged with aggravated kidnapping in that case in 1987, but court records show the grand jury declined to indict him, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

Police have decided to take another look at the case of Amelia Smith, a Parker County woman, who went missing in 2000. Her mobile home was burned to the ground. Police say it's unclear if Maxwell knew the woman but the case appears to have similarities to the recent case of the rescued woman whose house was also set on fire after she was abducted, CBS reports.

I would at least send an email to the woman in charge.
So she can take a look.

Name: Angela Abbrederis
AKA: Angela Kim Marie Abbrederis, Nagela Kimmarie Ng, Mei Ling, Audra Abbrederis, and/or Vanessa Abbrederis.
Case Number: M9610009
Case Type: Endangered - Foul Play Possible
Last Seen in: Dallas (Dallas County)
Last Seen on: 4/2/1996
Height: 5' 8 "
Weight: 115-120 lbs.
Age Missing: 27
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Brown
Date of Birth: 10/25/1968
Race: White/Asian - although she is listed as White/Hispanic on some sites
Sex: Female
State Missing From: Texas
Country Missing From: USA

Circumstances: Angela has a tattoo of a butterfly on her right hip, a scar on her hip and has had breast augmentation. She was known to work in various men's clubs as a dancer. The day of her disappearance she didn't take her vehicle or any clothing. Her dog was also left behind in her apartment. Dental and x-rays are available.

Abbrederis was last seen in Dallas, Texas on April 2, 1996. She left her vehicle behind and did not take any of her personal belongings from her residence, including her clothes, luggage and car keys. Abbrederis also left her dog unattended inside her apartment. There was laundry left in the washing machine and piled on the bed, which Abbrederis's mother says is uncharacteristic of her daughter. There were also what appeared to be bloody fingerprints near the front door, but the "blood" turned out to be paint. Abbrederis has never been heard from again.

Abbrederis' boyfriend emptied their joint checking account after her disappearance, signed one of her cars over to himself, and withdrew money from her savings account. He told police that he jointly owned all of what he took. Investigators say the boyfriend's actions do not necessarily mean he was involved in Abbrederis's disappearance.

Abbrederis worked in various Dallas clubs as an exotic dancer at the time of her 1996 disappearance. She also has a history of prostitution. Her mother believes she was the victim of foul play. Abbrederis has family members living in Michigan and Hong Kong. She is an Army veteran. Her case remains unsolved.

Unidentified Asian Female

* The victim was discovered on June 11, 1998 in Conroe, Montgomery County, Texas.
* Estimated Date of Death: 3 years or greater
* State of Remains: Partial Skeletal Remains
* Cause of Death: Unknown

Vital Statistics

* Estimated age: 20-33 years old.
* Approximate Height and Weight: Unknown.
* Distinguishing Characteristics: Unknown.
* Clothing: Blue or black ball cap with a "Lone Star Feed" logo. Tan cloth was also found with the remains.
* Dentals: Unknown. Some teeth had been glued into place.
* DNA: Sample submitted.
* Fingerprints: Not available.

Case History
On June 11, 1998, a man was walking in a wooded area behind his home in the 600 block of Airline Drive when he observed what appeared to be the top portion of a skull protruding from the ground.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office deputies investigated and recovered additional skeletal remains. The additional bones were determined not to be of human origin.

What appears to be a mounting hole was drilled into the cranium. The remains resemble other skulls that have been determined to be skull war trophies collected during Asian military action.

The remains were originally believed to be those of a male, however, DNA analysis in September 2010, has confirmed that they are those of a female.

The location and age of the victim and the UID are appropriate... I've been looking for an Asian Doe with breast implants (as for a match to Abbrederis), but this works because only the skull was recovered.

Also, Abbrederis' facial bone structure/jawline is a bit square, which might explain why they were under the impression Doe was an Asian male for a while.

LE estimates that Doe was deceased for 3+ years, but I question that because if there was a hole drilled/bored into the skull for mounting purposes, it was probably cleaned and prepared for such (like a hunter with a trophy mount?), thus leaving little to no residual soft tissue in the skull or on the bone.

Please provide feedback if you have any.

Thanks

Good question for Carl on the UID forum. From what I have seen you reallly can't depend on the height to be accurrate with skeletal remains. Off by inches either way.

Set up a thread in the UID forum with the Victim and the Jane Doe. Then ask Bessie to set up a sticky for the UID and one for the Victim so we can go to the UID Thread and check the progress from this forum. (I think a mod has to set up the sticky).

How sad ... and ironic!

I just this morning pulled the list of unsolved cases in Montgomery County and was noticing how many unidentified remains have been found and never identified...

It seems a daunting task, but I have decided to dedicate a certain amount of my life to researching some of these old cases .. if only to compare databases and try to link possibles ...

These people are someone's child, family ... so many unanswered questions ... wow.

Just 11 years old. Abducted by a white man and woman. Angelica was Hispanic. These were not her parents but why would she get in the truck with them?
Did she know her abductors?
Did she live with her grandmother or was she just visiting her. Possibly her Grandmother kept her while her parents worked.
Could they have abducted her to be their own child? Usually that happens with younger children but it is possible.

What a terrible story. Why would his wife go back with him after all he did to her? This man probably had something to do with more crimes than this.

This man is a real sadistic serial killer. I wonder how many of his other victims are in Texas or Oklahama. He held them hostage, beat them, tortured them.

Had his own room to use. Then he killed them. What other victims do we have that might be his victims. Torture, beaten, murdered, and burned?

Brandi Wells, 23
Missing Since: 08/03/06
Missing from: Longview, Texas
Classification: Endangered Missing
Date of Birth: 11/28/82
Age at disappearance: 23
Height: 4’11
Weight: 120 – 130 pounds
White Female
Hair:Blonde
Eyes:Blue
Clothing/Jewelry Description: A floral print brown and cream-colored tube top with a V cut over the hip, rust-colored gaucho pants, black strapless high-heeled sandals with a floral applique.
Distinguishing Characteristics:Wells’s nicknames are Blinky and Boo. She blinks frequently. Her hair was slightly below her shoulders at the time of her disappearance, without bangs. Her ears are pierced one time each, and she has French tips on her fingernails. Wells broke her left thumb at age ten and had a pin implanted, but the pin was removed after the injury healed.

Details of Disappearance
Wells was last seen in Longview, Texas on August 3, 2006. She planned to go to a pawnshop to get some money, but ended up going to Graham Central Station, a nightclub, instead. Wells is known to have arrived at the club at 10:30 p.m. She was unfamiliar with the area where the club was located, and had to call them several times to ask for directions. By the time she got there, her car was almost out of gasoline and she asked other customers for assistance, but it is unclear whether anyone offered to help her. She left alone shortly after midnight. She was not intoxicated at the time. She has never been heard from again.

Wells’s black four-door 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix, which has the Texas license plate number J50ZTD and damage to the passenger side just above the front wheel, disappeared with her. It was found five days later parked westbound on Interstate 20 at Texas Highway 31, just outside of Longview and 300 yards west of FM 2087. Inside were some of her personal belongings, including her wallet, purse and her ex-boyfriend’s nonfunctional cellular phone. There was no sign of Wells at the scene and no indications of a struggle, but the driver’s seat was reportedly pushed back, as if someone taller than Wells had driven it last. After Wells disappeared, there was some activity on her own cellular phone, which had disappeared with her. Three people found the phone and used it. All three individuals took a polygraph test; one of them, a man, failed it. The man has not been publicly identified, and though he has been interviewed multiple times by police, he has not been called a suspect in Wells’s case.

At the time of her disappearance, Wells resided with a roommate in Brownsboro, Texas. She is a graduate of Chapel Hill High School and, in August 2006, was looking forward to starting a new job at Wal-Mart and starting classes at Trinity Valley Community College. She dreamed of a career as a kindergarten or first-grade schoolteacher. Wells may have been taken against her will and foul play is possible in her disappearance. Her case remains unsolved.

The 03/2008 article at Tyler Paper indicates that Joseph Wayne Burnette was possibly involved with the disappearance of Brandi Wells, but I can't find anything conclusive. They also link him to the killing of a local prostitute, and have a picture of his truck. I'm wondering what kind of job he had & whether or not he was able to travel, since I've read some opinions of WS members that the SK for many of these murders was probably young and attractive?

Everytime I look at Brandi's picture I think of Katelyn Markham who went missing from Fairfield, Oh August 13, 2011. Katelyn resembles Brandi and their height and weight are very close.

I wonder if Joseph Wayne Burnette is still in prison. He was suppose to serve 10 years on a 2007 conviction.

Probably no connection but the similarities are there at least in my opinion.

You know, I was wondering about that deer skinning thing he had that woman tied to... And whether or not her injuries included any broken ribs? Seems like he was used to keeping his victims a while, right?

He had her for two weeks before police showed up at his house.

Has anyone read any articles that mention what kind of work this guy did? I can't find it anywhere.

And did Maxwell mention to the last victim whether or not he had done this to other women? Wouldn't he brag to her, maybe?

He was on the city council or something, as well...

I think we need more information about this guy.

Good work, Ikoihil. You're right we need more info on him. He was on city council! He doesn't look like someone who would be in politics. Just goes to show anyone can fool you!
