MI MI - Oakland County Child Killer, "The Babysitter Murders" , 1976-77 #2

Victim's family says Oakland County Child Killer might have been in law enforcement

His name is Bob.

He may be involved in law enforcement.

And he believes someone in law enforcement is – or was – the Oakland County Child Killer and may be responsible for eight or more additional slayings than the four previously credited to the killer in 1976-77.

So all of this is based on a "confidential informant" that they have never met and don't know for sure how he became involved in the case?

Is anybody up for blowing the pic's up and dissecting them the way we did the Alcala pics?
Maybe see if we can identify any of the books or anything?

Why does that flowered comforter on the floor remind me of the two kids in the van and the girl had the "My Sweet Audrina" book? Probably wrong time frame altogether, idk...and my faulty memory. It was actually the drawing of a child (seemingly screaming) that reminded of the boy in van...

OMG! They have never met 'Bob', but he's providing them with lots of leads.

If I remember correctly back when this was going on they felt it was either a cop or a priest because the victims all went willingly, or they had no reports of struggles. I hope they aren't paying Bob any money.

I'd like to hear more about what he is telling them. Because so far what I am hearing is things that has been rumored for years. So I am fearing that either he has nothing only rumor that he is presenting under false pretences, or that he knows more than he should because he has a personal connection to the case and is giving them his memories in order to taunt them.

It was a very scary time when these murders were happening. I was afraid to let my kids out of my sight. I wish the killer could be identified and closure brought to this case. I remember the killer taunting the police by giving them clues that didn't bring them any closer to catching him.

Some activity in this case, spurred by the lawsuit and "Bob." Taken from last link:

"At least five people were involved in the Oakland County child killings of the 1970s and at least four of the culprits are still alive, according to Bob, the mysterious confidential informant who wants the Department of Justice to take up the 36-year-old-plus investigation.

During a telephone interview this morning at a downtown Detroit law office, Bob told the Free Press that the killers murdered 11 to 16 more children than the four officially credited to the Oakland County Child Killer.

But he wouldn’t identify the killers or provide a list of all of their victims because he said he doesn’t want to jeopardize bringing the killers to justice. He said he and a half dozen associates have identified at least five factors that connect each of the killings."

Just stumbled on the case recently, and have been playing catch up. I was surprised to find recent developments.

Major break made in Oakland County Child Killer case

Hair in convicted pedophile's car linked to Oakland County Child Killer victims

OAKLAND COUNTY -
The Oakland County Prosecutor's office announced Tuesday a break in the case of the Oakland County Child Killer...

This case really gets me because during this time my family was living at 8 Mile and Farmington Road. The night Timmy King was found on Gill Road, my mother had been at the drug store at 8 & Farmington because she was sick and needed something to feel better. In that parking lot she saw a blue Gremlin (which was the car everyone was on the watch for). Shortly after she came back they were breaking into TV programming to announce Timmy had been found.

My mother called the tip line right then, gave the little information she had and was told someone would get back with her. Nobody did. She called them back again to say she had given a tip about the Gremlin being at Sav-on Drugs and was told again someone would get back with her.

Nobody did. She figured the information had been deemed unimportant and didn't try again. Nobody thought it was important enough to come and talk to her after she saw a car fitting the description of the car everyone was looking for less than a mile from and within an hour of this child being found.

Unfortunately, she is now dead and had dementia for the last 8 years of her life, so that information was probably gone from her memory.

I have to wonder a bit about their DNA testing. This is the second match we've had now, except they were against two totally different people?:waitasec:

I have really been researching this case lately, and am blown away by the vast amounts of crazy I had to wade through. Wow. From what I can piece together...Chris Busch hung out with a wide circle of creepy friends. And it connects North Fox Island to Cass Corridor. North Fox Island was a pedophile playground for the rich and twisted. I think it's a possibility that Busch was the clean up crew for a particular island guest that occasionally got a little too enthusiastic. To the wealthy pervs he worked for, Busch was a nobody, a perfect patsy. Pin the drawing to the wall and toss the ropes in the corner. To the Motor City, he (or his family, rather) was a somebody. A frame was covered up, forever muddying any waters. The first few names I found made it pretty clear to me.. powerful people probably have done their best to keep this quiet.

Links I've been reading.. (I'm sorry if this has all been hashed to death already. This has completely absorbed me as I've not moved from in front of the AC in days)

*ETA* Just watched the press conference and read thearticle
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_...ed-in-1970s-michigan-murders-prosecutor-says/

"(CBS/AP) PONTIAC, Mich. - A Michigan prosecutor says investigators have discovered important new information related to a "person of interest" in the deaths of two of four children killed during a 13-month period in the 1970s.

CBS Detroit reports that four children - Mark Stebbins, 12; Jill Robinson, 12; Kristine Mihelich, 10; and Timothy King, 11 - were kidnapped and found dead between 1976 and 1977. Their murders - known as the Oakland County Child Killer case - have remained unsolved.

Talking to reporters, Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper said that DNA testing by the FBI has found that a hair found on two of those victims -- Stebbins and King -- came from the same person.

Cooper said that person is an associate of 70-year-old Arch Edward Sloan, the owner of a 1966 Pontiac Bonneville in which a matching hair was found.

Cooper says they're seeking tips about people who might have been with Sloan at the time. According to the Detroit Free Press, Cooper said Sloan, who is not a suspect in the case, often loaned his cars to other people. Sloan himself is serving two life sentences for first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-442-7766"

Reminded me of this:

http://www.freep.com/article/201206...-tie-James-Gunnels-to-case-but-no-charges-yet
"James Gunnels is the only person whose DNA matched a hair found on one of the Oakland County Child Killer's victims.

"It happened in March 2009, when the FBI crime laboratory in Quantico, Va., concluded that mitochondrial DNA from the 47-year-old parolee matched DNA from a hair fragment found on the body of Kristine Mihelich, the child killer's third victim. [...] Williams said the DNA match might help corroborate the task force's theory that Busch may have used the younger Gunnels to lure children into his car. Neither man was ever charged in the case.

Gunnels was paroled to Kalamazoo in 2011 after serving sentences for larceny, breaking and entering an occupied dwelling, car theft and attempting prison escape.

As a child, authorities said, he had been sexually assaulted by Busch. They said the assaults prompted criminal cases against Busch in two of the four counties where Busch eventually pleaded guilty to pedophile charges. Despite the assaults, Gunnels began to hang out with Busch, police said.

Although investigators said Gunnels rode in Busch's car many times, Gunnels said he didn't know Kristine Mihelich and didn't know how his DNA got onto her body.

Gunnels took two polygraph tests, but authorities have never released the results."

Sigh. So much mud in the water.

If they ever manage to arrest anyone in this case, I don't know if I'll really believe they got the right person/people. Information has come out in dribs and drabs, now 35 years later they're asking people to try and remember if they saw this other car....I feel bad for the families of the children, I really do.

Local 4 Defenders have learned the physical and DNA evidence linking an associate of 70-year-old Arch Edward Sloan to the male victims in the murder spree which began in the 1970s. This associate left hair at the crime scene of the two murdered boys.

What a break this would be if this was finally solved. Fingers crossed for all of the families.

I wonder if there is a way to combine these two threads??

Here is the other one-

DNA links hair found in car to two victims of Oakland County Child Killings

Authorities seek tips, associates of convicted pedophile called person of interest in 36-year-old cold case

By Mike Martindale
The Detroit News

Pontiac— More than three decades after the Oakland County child killings terrorized Metro Detroit, authorities Tuesday announced a "significant breakthrough" in the case.

Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper, who has faced fierce criticism from victims' families over the slow pace and secrecy of the probe, said authorities have a "person of interest" based on DNA test results that link hair samples taken from a car and two victims.

At a news conference, Cooper said a hair found in a red 1966 Pontiac Bonneville owned by Archibald Edward Sloan has the same mitochondrial DNA profile as hair found on victims Mark Stebbins and Timothy King.

Authorities said the hair samples aren't from the boys or from Sloan. Cooper said investigators are seeking tips about Sloan's associates from the 1970s. A hotline has been set up at (800) 442-7766...

"Arch E Sloan - I started working in water colors and doing pencil sketches since March 1974 I got in- in this field merely as a form of relaxation I hope some day to be able to use water colors to the extent of making my work appear as a picture from a camera or as if one were ing through a window at real life"

Interesting in light of the drawing at the suicide scene.

They need to test that 'new' hair against Gunnels, if they haven't already.

In late spring-early summer of 1977 I was skateboarding behind then Farmer Jacks at the intersection of 8 mile and Grand River in Livonia. That part of the parking lot was never used, possibly was ment for future stores. I was alone, and seemingly out of nowhere a car slowly approached and stopped close by. A slender white male, maybe 150-165 pounds. Got out of his car and started a conversation with me. He was all smiles and was trying to use his car as "bait"....asking me if I wanted a ride, he just got it and it was really fast and would let me drive etc. He was coming around the car and talking, not in a hurry but approaching.

I ran as fast as I could.....I lived within a block and was home within seconds it seemed.

Maybe 11-12 yrs ago, I called the Oakland county police and gave them my best description of the car, the man, and the events. I wanted to see if there were any pictures I could view based on my story. They didnt seem interested in helping.

This happened within miles of where timothy king was found and I have always wondered if this was the man, or someone involved at the very least.

If I saw a picture of the man, I'd still know him. I am currently trying to find pictures on-line of the listed suspects but everything is recent.

The man was late 20's, early 30's. Longer hair, not to the shoulders though. Light brown/sandy blonde hair with mustache and sideburns. The car was newer, redish-brown paint, black roof-vinyl maybe.

I would like to see pictures of the suspects from that time frame. I would know him if I saw a picture of him"

Not sure on the 'newer' part of the description, as i'm not familiar with what that model/year is, but the details match.

OMG I know right where he must have been skating and nobody really used the area behind Farmer Jack. There was a long, high wall that separated the lot from the neighborhood behind it. Nobody would have seen if he was taken. I'm so glad he got away!

What a tip, though. And another citizen with at the very least INTERESTING NEW INFORMATION and basically ignored.

The place he was skating was probably 3-1/2? 4? miles away from where Timmy King was found.

They said they got 26 tips from last night and I hope this person called in.
