Area police search for missing man, 33
Authorities in the Northland are trying to track down a missing man.

Police believe Donald C. Hadden, 33, used to live in Liberty. He was reported missing on Thursday and last spoke to his family sometime the first week of July.

Investigators believe he is in danger but aren't saying why. They believe he was last seen in rural Platte County.

Police are seeking to identify and interview a woman driving a white truck who was reported to have provided gasoline sometime during the first week of July to two men stranded in a gray car, possibly on a rural Platte County road.

I wonder how it led to the arrests, what kind of evidence did they find?? I was under the impression they were already arrested and believed one of them led police to the body, but I guess not.

On breaking news now: Hadden was an confidential informant last seen with the two men that are now arrested.

He may have been tailed and/or wearing a wire. That would explain his "endangered" status, and also would explain how LE knew of the female who stopped to help with gas for the two men who were stranded on the road. Possibly if LE was tailing him: they lost him when the car *possibly* ran out of gas and stopped on the roadside.

I think his two pals may have discovered he was a CI somehow.

That makes sense, but I can't find any info stating he was a CI. Do you have a link?

I'm also not seeing any confirmation that he was a CI (although I may just be looking in the wrong places). I did find an article in which his mom says that that's her theory however.

One of her theories, Hadden said, is that her son had been gathering information on his drug-selling acquaintances to later disclose to police. In this version of events, her son throws away his cellphone.

“He threw it away because of all the information on it,” she said.

I totally believe he was simply because it's the only thing that would resolve my questions re: how quickly the two suspects were arrested, how eagerly LE tracked the case, and how much intel LEO seemed to have prior to the body being located on Sunday.

This KC Star article from one year ago also made me an even bigger believer in the CI theory:

But now that I think about it, would LE even want to publicize he was a CI even if it was true?

ETA: My apologies, KayElJay. Same link as the one you already posted above.

No need to apologize. Great minds think alike ;) In regards to your question about if LE would want to publicize it if he was in fact a CI...My guess would be no, they wouldn't, as it might compromise aspects of their investigation/tip their hand so to speak. In a few other cases I've followed where the victim was a CI, the fact eventually came out during the investigation, but it wasn't confirmed immediately. Sometimes I think the family helps reveal the truth because in their quest for answers and justice, they feel like LE may have unnecessarily put their loved one at risk or should have done more to protect them. If that makes sense.

Crazy. Those two don't look like murderers at all. In fact, both look like models (face tats aside).

Judge Daren Adkins will have jury selection begin on Friday, June 22, with the trial starting Monday, June 25. He will be arraigned before Circuit Judge Brent Elliott on Friday, May 25.
