GUILTY CA - Hervey Medellin, 66, found dismembered, Los Angeles, 27 Dec 2011

Pretty sure your heavier drug cartels wouldn't hack off a head and hands and dump them beneath a recognizable landmark. Not their M.O. in this country.

They've located the hands and feet.. I'm gonna say that the torso is likely not gonna be found in this area.. Could be wrong but seems as tho these parts that have been found are the key identifying parts on a corpse.. So I'd think the torso may be located in another area or not all..*shrug*

Seems to me that the dumping place was chosen to send a message; iow, the parts were expected to be found.

NOT saying that the message had anything to do with "Hollywood" or its sign, but instead a site where a soon discovery would be likely.

The remains should lead to an i.d. of the victim, at the very least...and hopefully to some other evidence that leads to the killer(s).

I agree, Shana.

I would think they would know who it is by today. But, they may not say publicly for strategic reasons if it's a mob thing.

It really smells like mob or drug hit and the killers wanted the person found and identified to "send a message" to anyone else (in the mob or drug cartel) who dares to do whatever "disloyal to the mob" thing the murdered person did.

Like the horse's head in the movie producer's bed in The Godfather.

I'll never understand how or why someone could/would dismember a person's body.
YUCK!

Hollywood search resumes after severed head, feet, hands found

Authorities said they have not identified the victim, whom they described as a man in his 40s. They were optimistic that the hands were in good enough condition to obtain fingerprints.

Police said the victim probably had been dead for a day or two and that most likely he was killed somewhere else.

I heard on a local radio show yesterday that they thought the victim was Armenian. I haven't seen anything about that in print, though.

Have they found the body? Mutilated torso discovered in Arizona desert after
head, hands and feet are found near Brad and Angelina's Hollywood Hills mansion

Arizona police have launched a joint investigation with Los Angeles authorities to determine whether body parts found near the Hollywood sign this week are connected to a dismembered body discovered 500 miles away.

A headless body was found on the side of a dirt road west of the Tucson Mountains on January 6, according to the Pima County sheriff's office.
---
According the the Arizona Daily Star, the dismembered body is that of a male, found by two men cutting grass to feed their animals.

Pima County sheriff's Bureau Chief Rick Kastigar told the newspaper the man's head, hands and feet were missing.

They note that the coyotes that roam rugged Bronson Canyon Park in packs at night -- their howls are the only sounds people hear after dusk -- would have destroyed the remains if they had been there longer than a few days.

"If it had not been for the dog walker, we might never have found it," police Cmdr. Andrew Smith said Thursday at the park.

As if to make Smith's point, a coyote strolled by a hillside at that moment,
stopping no more than 30 yards away and turning its head curiously toward the assembled reporters as the officer continued to speak.

They don't believe the head, feet and hands are connected to a torso police in Tucson, Ariz., found on Jan. 6, Smith said.

That was too long ago for the head and other parts to have survived in the condition in which they were discovered.

They don't believe a serial killer was involved.

Brad Pitt was in the movie Se7en which was about Two detectives, a rookie and a veteran, hunt a serial killer who uses the seven deadly sins as his modus operandi.

Once scene in the movie shows Morgan Freeman opening a box and it is a severed head of his wife in it.

I wonder if this is a stalker of Brad Pitt and wanted to send him a message of sorts.

The detectives investigate a series of murders relating to the seven deadly sins, such as an obese man who was forced to feed himself to death, representing "Gluttony". They find clues at each crime scene related to other deaths, and believe they are chasing a serial killer.

Indiana Bones pieces together Hollywood severed limbs case
January 20, 2012

snipped...

About 6 on a cold clear morning one bright-eyed German shepherd and about a dozen other members of the Los Angeles County coroner's skeletal recovery team gather for a Wednesday briefing.

The previous afternoon, a dog walker had discovered two of her charges playing with a human head in a plastic bag near a trail below the Hollywood sign in Bronson Canyon Park.

Police had performed a preliminary search of the rugged Hollywood Hills terrain, but they weren't sure whether more body parts might be found; coyotes could have scattered the remains over miles of parkland.

Indiana Bones to the rescue.
