MA MA - Deborah Quimby, 13, Townsend, 3 May 1977

Popped in here to post about another case and I just had to check to see if there had been an update on Debbie's case. Do they have any more information about those letters that came in last year?

Which new letters were they? I only heard about an older letter that they received. Any pics of the letter, or a link to the story?

read this whole thread and was wondering if anything ever was discovered about these letters. What about Debra being pregnant? maybe that was the reason she had left to think things over maybe she was frightened. I just wish her family could get closure. there has to be some answers out there somewhere!

BUMP Update-
Colleen Orsborn /Deborah Quimby/Alicia Markovich
3 different females vanished and/or killed in 3 different states. The link, 3 anonymous letters mailed to police or to the victim’s Family members, telling them to look near a body of water for the bodies. A further link, all 3 of these letters were mailed from the same 3 square mile in NH. Without a doubt, by the same person. Not to pat myself on the back, but I linked these 3 cases to those letters and contacted police in each case. They investigated, and think the letters were likely from a single hoaxer. I tend to agree.

Hmmm...wolf in sheeps clothing as far as I am concerned:

"TOWNSEND -- The man who sought donations to pay for the investigation of a 32-year-old missing-persons case says he has bowed out because his background stirred a cloud of controversy.

Missing Persons' Web site, www.mpsiu.com, boasts that it has "cold case specialists" -- essentially subcontractors -- but Reinhart admits his background is in "sales and business development." He is not a licensed private investigator. His specialty is determining human behavior."

I am going to take a moment to VENT here-you all have NO IDEA what this family has been through in the last 32 years concerning this case...the whisperings, the phone calls, the psychic nuts, the outlay of money from people who are trying to exploit a families pain....I am going to go out on a limb and say that Reinhart is a two bit bottom feeder who scooped the case off of the recent NAMUS listing...And you wonder why Debs mom will not comment on this case any further in the public.

CRAWL back under your rock....

Mods delete if you must I am giving myself a time out.

I know this was written about five years ago but it was a very accurate warning and assessment.

In another alleged scheme from 2009, Reinhart allegedly tried to solicit donations in Townsend by posing as a missing persons investigator searching for clues surrounding the 1977 death of 13-year-old Deborah Ann Quimby. It's not clear what Rodriguez's role is in that alleged crime.

In any case, bumping for Deborah.

Not that I necessarily think the two cases are related, but a man questioned first as a witness and later, as a person of interest with regard to the 2004 disappearance of Maura Murray in Woodsville, NH was accused by his ex-wife of killing her and dumping her body in a local pond. This matches exactly the content of the anonymous Quimby letters, which were posted from New Hampshire.

The POI is still alive and his name is all over the net, so I'll refrain from posting it here, but police worked hard to tie him to Maura's disappearance and found nothing concrete. Still, I'd be curious to know if he has any connection to Townsend, MA.

Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting this guy's a killer; only that his ex-wife's accusations might make her a suspect in the letter writing campaign (especially given the timing).

Anything new in this case?

Did I read correctly that these anonymous letters were sent from Manchester, NH? If so, just thought I would point out that Rachel Garden went missing from Newton NH March 22, 1980. In 2013, local police received a tip (no idea if this was a letter, phone call, etc. Police won't comment.) that Rachel's body was located in Country Pond. On April 26, 1980, Laureen Rahn disappeared from her home on Merrimack St. in Manchester, NH. Just 6 weeks after Laureen went missing, Denise Denault, 26, also went missing. Denise lived just 2 blocks from Laureen on Merrimack St. All 3 were petite brunettes.

From Townsend to Newton is 51.9 miles.
From Townsend to Manchester is 33.6 miles.
From Newton to Manchester is 34.6 miles.

Question for the locals:

Would the road she was riding on been shared with cars? Do you think there is a chance she was hit by a car and the driver panicked?

That could maybe explain the letters, if the writer had made a horrible mistake in his or her youth and really does feel guilty about it

The link to other letters from the same area does sound like a hoax but I'm not so sure since the dogs hit on the area too.

1977 was a little before my time so I'm not sure this will help, but Turnpike isn't heavily traveled by vehicles. Once you get past Spaulding School, there aren't too many houses. People do use it as a shortcut (but only if you're stuck behind someone driving very slowly as it's not MUCH quicker, if at all) between 119 and Dudley/Old Turnpike/Mason Road.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, George Rossbach was hit by a car and killed in front of his property on Turnpike in 2001: http://www.nashobavalleyvoice.com/ci_16346676 (super local paper).

Thanks, I keep coming back to the scenario where she was accidentally hit by someone who was coming around a turn and didn't see her.

I have an older family member who once hit a child with his truck. He did call the police and waited for them to arrive, and the child wasn't seriously hurt, my relative was backing out of his driveway and didn't see the kid on his Big Wheel (remember those?) so thankfully he wasn't driving fast at all. But he says he still thinks about it daily and feels horrible about it.

Maybe that is why I think that type of thing would fit with the letters being sent.

At least once a month, Marshall meets with two volunteer investigators with The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. “We’ve been doing some re-interviewing and doing some polygraphs and I traveled to Oregon and I traveled to New York last year,” he said.

The Chief will not say who’s been interviewed so far, but he did say, there have been recent inconsistencies in stories. So, possibly as soon as next month, even more interviews will be done. “Continuing our interviews and we know who we are going to interview,” he said.

Interesting article. Wish we had something more recent for her.

Yeah, the thing about the inconsistent stories is odd. Who had a story to tell other than the friend who accompanied her partway? Nobody else saw her, right?

Was there a mention somewhere of her being seen either with some boys or by some boys near the school or am I confused with a different case?
