FL - AMBER ALERT: Female, 4, Boynton Beach, 7 April 2010
AMBER ALERT: Four year old girl taken from bus stop
http://www.cbs12.com/news/girl-4725252-pink-bus.html
April 07, 2010 9:10 AM
BOYNTON BEACH -- Police are searching for a four or five-year-old girl taken from a bus stop near the 1600 block of SW 8th Street this morning.
The girl was reported missing at about 7:28 a.m. A man approached the girl at a bus stop. She got into his white Nissan Armada SUV with silver striping and silver trim.
The man is described as being in his mid 40s with light color hair that is thin or balding on top. He was wearing blue pants and a gray T-shirt with pink lettering on the back.
The girl was wearing pink shorts and a white top with, possibly, spaghetti straps and pink flowers on the shirt.
Police are right now talking to schools and parents to find out if any children are absent today – and if so, are they legitimately absent.
Anyone with information is urged to call Sgt. Thomas Wallace at 742-6126 or Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County at 800-458-TIPS.

An Amber Alert has been issued for a 4- or 5-year-old girl possibly abducted Wednesday morning in Boynton Beach.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued the alert after police reported the girl missing from a bus stop near the 1600 block of Southwest Eighth Street.
Police said a caller at 7:28 a.m. reported seeing a man approach the girl at the bus stop. She got into his car, a white Nissan Armada SUV with silver striping and silver trim, the caller said.
In addition to the state's Amber Alert, police activated a reverse 911 — automated phone alerts — for neighborhoods in the area.

Wow, LE jumped on this one fast. Good for them!!! And kudos to the witness who called to report this.
I hope it's merely a case of a parent or relative picking the child up from the stop, but I'm glad to see the police aren't taking any chances.

I wonder if Palm Beach County has Pre-K. 4YO is young to be at a school bus stop.
ETA: Yes, they do have Pre-K in PBC Schools.

Are there any laws in this area about a child that age being at a bus stop without an adult? In PA, Kindergarten kids must have a guardian or parent ( on the a list that the bus driver has) at the bus stop for pickup and dropoff, they will not allow the child to get on or off the bus without that adult being there. Just wondering if something like this is in FL as well?
I would also think that if this child gets on a bus there everyday that neighbors would know who she is? IMO

We don't know the situation yet though. Perhaps an older sister or brother was supposed to be watching her and they turned their back. It's so strange when this happens that we pray that it is a hoax and in a way wish it not to be. Nobody wants to see a child go missing but enough hoaxes and people start tuning out.
Goodness knows FL has had their share of missing child problems lately. Anthony's, Cummings, the hoax the two young boys pulled here in Port Saint Lucie. But they all still deserve the same serious treatment and resources unless and until it is proven to be a hoax.
I am sure there are laws about leaving a child unattended at that age, regardless of the location or reason.

My heart aches, I hope this turns out to be something else. I live in Brevard County. This is not too far from me.
ETA: I also have a 4 year old Please, please let them find out who this little girl is and let her be safe.

Do you think the police could look up that vehicle and see if anyone is registered to one in that area at least? Maybe this is a family member who picked her up, we just don't know but she obviously lives close to the bus stop? IMO

That was in Port Saint Lucie, FL. Two young boys were found to have lied. This one was turned in by an adult.
I would much rather it be a hoax though than a child in danger. Mixed emotions, all sad.

I remember when that happened with the little boys. This one sounds concerning to me! Not that the other one didn't but with an adult turning it in. We can still hope that it was somebody in the family picking her up for some reason.

I'm in Florida, and one of my sons goes to pre-k at the elementary school. He is not allowed to ride the bus, I need to take him (it starts a little later than the regular school day and VPK only 3 hrs./day). There is no state law about having a parent at the bus stop that I'm aware of. But, my county has a rule that K students are picked up/dropped in front of their house. I don't know if Palm Beach has the same policies as I have here.
ETA: BBM - at least what house she lives in???

I agree, it'd be helpful. I'll look around and see if I can find it reported anywhere.

I wonder if anyone on here has children in this district? This child was at the bus stop at 7:28am and like you said, your child goes in later.

That's great info about the rules. I don't know what they are for my county, I will be finding out soon as my daughter will be starting VPK this August. I will drive her myself though.
If she lived very close nearby, I guess I could see her walking with a group of maybe older siblings or something but that still doesn't make sense since most VPK's start later than the rest of the classes. Maybe she is 5??
Sorry just thinking.

A few media stations are reporting that the abduction occurred outside of The Cove at Boynton Beach, which is an apartment complex. So, I'm wondering if the little girl was allowed to stand out there and wait for the bus, seeing as how it would've only been a few feet from her house.
