Police search for missing 67 year old woman

Quote:
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) - Police need your help finding a missing woman. Billie Jean James was last seen at her home in the South part of Valley Thursday. About three months ago, Billie Jean had a stroke which temporarily caused memory trouble.
Her husband can't imagine where she would be.
"Thursday afternoon I woke up from a nap and she wasn't home. I didn't see her, I thought she went to visit a neighbor or something, but after an hour I just got very concerned," said William James.
The 67 year old left behind her purse, wallet, cell phone and car. Anyone with information is asked to call Metro Police.

Longtime environmental and civic activist Billie Jean James has been missing since Thursday afternoon from her home in the southern end of the valley near the M Resort.
Her husband Bill James said the couple had planned to travel to Hawaii Friday to spend a week in volunteer service. His wife left her purse, keys, and car behind.

Thank you for posting this. I'm still new to WS and wasn't about starting a new thread. I work with a lady who knows Billie Jean and is just worried sick. I'm keeping them in my prayers.

My coworker attended an outdoor vigil for Billie Jean last night. I actually have two coworkers who know her. Still no news. Friends are worried sick. There was talk about organizing a search in the area, but nothing official yet. If anyone does hear about a search, please post. I'd like to help in any way possible.

JOHN L. SMITH: For husband of missing woman, waiting is the worst part

Along the distant southern reaches of Las Vegas Boulevard, away from the city lights, you get the feeling you've reached the end of the map.
This is the jagged edge of the great Las Vegas boomtown. It's out here, not far from the M Resort, that Billie Jean James has lived with her husband, Bill James, for nearly 40 years in a house he built.

"The worst part of it is just sitting around waiting," he says.
Nobody just walks off the map.
Do they?

Continuing to send prayers for Billie Jean's safe return. I have 2 elderly parents, and this just really scares me. The elderly are vulnerable to both medical episodes and to persons with evil intentions. Billie Jean's disappearance has me worried sick for her and her husband, but also makes me worry for my own elder family members.

I hoped that there would be information from the search this morning.
Checking on the Billy Jean Facebook, the most recent post is about
what is needed to send information to America's Most Wanted.
This is about an hour ago.
The same poster mentions the search but says nothing more about the results of it.

It has been 20 days since Billie Jean James went missing from her home in Henderson, NV. There has been no sighting of her since then. Her family and friends facebook shows some notes and/or pictures each day.

Does anyone know that she actually had a stroke a few months ago and had developed memory problems? Just curious.

Believe09....I have read that she had a stroke or a mild stroke or even a TIA, and this event was associated with memory problems. The following two statements document the stroke through the pen of a reporter. We do not have anyone here who knows her or the family. The facebook pages continue to tell us bits and pieces of what is happening.
Metro seeks help finding missing woman, 67
By Sun Staff (contact)

Authorities said James suffered a stroke about three months ago, which temporarily caused her to have memory problems. She recovered from the stroke, but police said it is feared James might have suffered another stroke and might have additional memory problems.

JOHN L. SMITH: For husband of missing woman, waiting is the worst part
Apr. 28, 2010
Bill says Metro investigators believe Billie Jean might have become disoriented -- she suffered a mild stroke several months ago -- and is probably in a local hospital or care center as a Jane Doe.

Police, hospitals, family join forces to look for woman
http://www.lvrj.com/news/police--hos...-93839669.html

LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL

From the time a person goes missing, every minute is crucial. To investigators, time can mean the difference between safely returning the individual home or finding a body. To a family, time can mean waiting until the relative is found or preparing to hear the worst. To hospitals, time can mean stabilizing a "Jane Doe," trying to identify the person, finding her family and then contacting police.
For Billie Jean James, who vanished April 22 from her home near M Resort, timing is everything.

Summer Breeze....that is a very good article. Imagine how difficult it is to
handle an average of 19 missing individuals each day. I do see the weak link
with how many flyers actually get to all of the hospitals and then to the
Emergency Department bulletin boards.
http://www.lvrj.com/news/police--hos...-93839669.html
I see that the friends and family on facebook are developing a new flyer
and talking about re-visiting the hospitals and expanding to towns
that are a farther distance from Henderson and LV.
My thought is that the flyer should use photos that are the most recent.
This lady has lots and lots of friends and family who seem to be very
supportive.

I dont know if this helps any, but...
I have a resource who is a Deputy Guardian at the Clark County Social Services Dept.
In Las Vegas, when someone is discovered like a living Jane or John Doe, and requires decisionmaking and care, they are appointed a Guardian for the purposes of receiving benefits like Medicaid/Medicare, temp SSN's etc...
I sent my respource an email to see if anyone in her dept pulled a case that might match Billie's. And I sent her the links to the story. It is a long shot, but you never know...
here is a link to the program:

Updated article today about Billie Jean...and I understand from facebook that
there will be noon (Las Vegas) coverage. Perhaps our LV folks will be able
to listen and report.

I heard back from the Deputy Guardian who is my contact-the Guardian Dept received Billy's MP flyer from LVPD 3 weeks ago and no one seems to have been assigned a Jane Doe that matches her description...
