Dan’s car, keys, wallet (minus driver’s license), laptop computer and cell phone were all left at his apartment. Also not found was his passport.
According to the FB page, His cell phone, computer etc..has all been checked and are no help. Privacy laws mean that they can't check his passport or the flight records to see if he flew anywhere.
He did study abroad for a year in Japan.
He left his apartment around 5-5:30 pm. and was last seen getting on the light rail heading west at the Mill Ave station.
Surveillance footage shows him boarding a west bound train towards Phoenix around 6 p.m.

Every time I read the statement "car, keys, cell phone, wallet" were left at home -- I think -- that can't be good. And that statement shows up often on some of these cases if you'll notice.

Webrocket--Why would you make a statement like that? He goes to ASU. I don't think there is any indication of his religion. He is originally from Ohio.
A family member posted on FB that it appears he was holding a bag when he got on the train, and his drivers license was not in his wallet.
Questions I have:
1. How long had he been going to ASU? (If he went as a freshman, he would know the area.)
2. Did he have a girlfriend?
3. Did he take light rail as a regular form of transportation? (It has been said he worked at a law firm--did he take the light rail to work?
4. I am trying to think back, but I believe that The Eagles played in Phoenix last Wedn (I tried to get tix for my hubby.) I will check, but perhaps he went to the concert?
EDIT: They DID play that night, at the US AIRWAYS Center, which he could have taken light rail to. Maybe he got a last minute ticket to the game?

Well, we're always looking for patterns -- and, sometimes, details such as religion may or may not play a role. It's never to offend, it's always to analyze -- but I still shy away from certain questions I would like to ask -- because I'm concerned I'm going to offend someone. I'm always trying to push the puzzle pieces around to see what might have been missed. Our ultimate goal is the same, to get to the truth and figure out what happened to someone.

Heidinger’s friend Michael Barulich said most of Heidinger’s belongings were left at his Tempe apartment, including his car, keys and cell phone. Items that haven’t yet been found yet include Heidinger’s driver’s license and passport, he said.
Heidinger’s father, Emil Heidinger, said it is too early to speculate if he might have traveled somewhere.
“Just tell him that we love him,” he said.
James Wees, Heidinger’s employer at Wees Law Firm in Phoenix, said Heidinger’s family is distraught because they don’t have answers.
“All of his family and friends are hoping that this has a positive outcome,” Wees said. “And if he left on his own accord, let him know there is a group of people wanting to hear from him.”
Wees said Heidinger is good-natured, and it would be out of character for him to leave without telling anyone.
Nicole Siqueiros, who used to work with Heidinger at a Phoenix law firm, said he never missed work without a phone call. Siqueiros now works in the same building as Heidinger.
“ He had a final the night he went missing,” she said. “It doesn’t make sense that he’d just leave with no contact. I don’t know where people go, but I can’t believe that something happened to make him want to disappear and scare everyone.”

I completely understand that. However, I am trying to understand the context of Webrockets statement that this man was Mormon...
The Phoenix area has a population of approximately 5 million people of various ethnic and religious persuasions. ASU is a nondemoninational college. In this case there is absolutely no indication that his religion played a role in his disappearance. Unless it can be shown that he was going to church/temple etc and there is a direct connection to his religion, I really do not see how his religion is relevant.

I gotta tell you, I am just floored by this case. This is one successful young man who seems to have it all!! I cannot figure it out. What did he take with him on the train to Phoenix, I wonder. What is on his computer and cell phone. What was on his mind in recent days...I am mystified, because he looks like someone who is well on the way to a fantastic life.

This link posted previously.
But just making a note of :
..snipped.
22-year-old Heidinger is an ASU student studying economics. Heidinger is 5'11", 155 lbs., with light brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a dark sweatshirt and light-colored shorts.
Friends say his car, keys, wallet, computer and cell phone were all left at his apartment.
Detectives believe foul play is not a factor but are trying to locate Heidinger to check welfare.
Maybe LE has a good reason to think he has gone off on his own for a personal reason.?
Also, flier says he is wearing grey t shirt and light blue jeans.
News articles say he is wearing dark sweatshirt and light colored shorts.
Could be just a mistake made early on in the reporting.

these are all fair questions. The reason I mentioned the Mormon thing is that people who belong to various subsets of the American population have different world views and behaviors. Not better, not worse, just different.
People's motivations for doing things are heavily influenced by their upbringings. As we saw with Steven Koecher, his religion affected his associations before he disappeared and affected the viewpoints of those who were speculating on what he was up to after it was known he disappeared.

Tonight Daniel's brother posted on Facebook that they have heard from him and he is okay. He left the country, so I am guessing he went back to Japan.

Can MODs change this to found?

Police say an ASU student that went missing last week has contacted his family and says he is in good condition.
Tempe police say Daniel Heidinger was last seen between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. at his residence near 5th Street and Mill Avenue in Tempe on April 21. Officials confirmed he boarded a westbound light rail train toward Phoenix.
Police reportedly received word Wednesday that the ASU economics major contacted his family, saying that he made a decision to leave the country on his own and he is in "good condition."

Well, I guess he had his reasons for leaving his home to go to Japan.
Probably we will never know them, but I am glad he is safe.

I'm curious, who is the person from Ohio that you are referring to?
If you don't want to use their name, please at least use their initials.
thanks
