I'm glad she was found safe. I'm sure her Mom and family are joyous. I hope that she gets counseling. JMHO.

I'm thrilled she was found safe! Having said that, people that stage their own disappearance make me mad. When folks are truly missing the general public remembers cases like this one, and so they don't take it seriously.

I agree. I read that out in California many LE agencies are short staffed, facing budget cutbacks, etc. right now and cases like this take up their valuable resouces and time. MOO

A former UCLA student who was reported missing from the Glendale area was found alive and unharmed Thursday in the Central California town of Merced, according to Glendale police. Nancy Salas, 22, was found in good condition, but the circumstances surrounding her disappearance remain unclear.
A store clerk said Salas showed up at Carpet One Floor and Home in downtown Merced, about 275 miles northwest of where she vanished on Wednesday morning, claiming she had been kidnapped at knifepoint.
Melanie Mittelsteadt said Salas walked into the store on Main Street at around 11 a.m. looking distraught. She said Salas was crying and asked her to call 911.
Mittelsteadt said she called police and then handed the phone to Salas.
"She did tell the police when they had shown up that she was running in the morning and there was an older man and he had just kind of pushed her into his car. It didn't seem like she really knew maybe where she was," said the clerk.
Salas described the alleged kidnapper as a man in his 50s with black hair and white streaks.
Police are not saying whether or not a crime has been committed, although it does not appear that Salas was injured.

I think, she KNEW the gig was up, and she simply skated away in her own "If I'm not seen, I'm not gone" mode.

Grrr... This makes me mad:
"Salas told police she'd been abducted by a man at knifepoint during her run and was taken to Merced by bus and train, Lorenz said.
Salas retracted her story shortly before she was set to be reunited with her family back in Glendale late Thursday, Lorenz said, admitting that she made it up and fled because she felt intense pressure from her family and friends."

FoxNews is going to have this story on after the commercial break.
At least she was found safe..it's better than the alternative outcome.

Southern California woman made up abduction story
http://www.10news.com/news/23546816/detail.html
A missing 22-year-old Glendale woman believed to have been a UCLA student told Glendale police Thursday night she was not abducted at knifepoint, making up the entire story.

She probably knew she was about to be busted for lying about going to school. It's people like this who make other actually missing people not get the attention they deserve!!!

Ex-UCLA student who disappeared gets probation
The Associated Press
Posted: 08/13/2010 07:59:23 PM PDT
GLENDALE, Calif.—A Southern California woman who made up a story about being kidnapped to avoid telling her parents she had dropped out of college has been sentenced to three years probation. Nancy Salas was also ordered Friday to serve 100 hours of community service after pleading no contest to filing a false police report.
The 22-year-old disappeared in May, launching a massive search with helicopters, dogs and dozens of volunteers searching the hills near her Glendale home.
Salas told her family she was about to graduate from UCLA, but detectives learned she hadn't been enrolled since 2008.
She turned up in downtown Merced and told police that she had been kidnapped. http://www.contracostatimes.com/ci_1...costatimes.com

I hope they make her do her community service with a victim's rights/advocacy group. This young lady needs to know what real victims go through, and that being kidnapped/raped/abused/MURDERED is no frickin joke!
