ME - Pete Peterson - 61 years old - Southwest Harbor - 22 Sept 2010

Hunt Still on for Missing Man
Wednesday, October 06, 2010 at 3:40 pm

Quote:
SOUTHWEST HARBOR ó Itís been more than two weeks since Pete Peterson last ate a peanut butter and cheese sandwich at the Quietside Cafť on Main Street.

Mr. Peterson, 61, dined at the restaurant on a regular basis. The peanut butter with American cheese sandwich was his favorite meal. On Sept. 22, he ate one for lunch and returned to the Quietside later in the day for meatloaf. That was the last verifiable time the Southwest Harbor man was seen.

Several sources claim they spotted Mr. Peterson on Sept. 23, and again on Sept. 24, but those sightings could not be substantiated, said Chief David Chapais of the Southwest Harbor Police Department.

Another article that shows a little more insight what Pete was like

http://www.bangordailynews.com/story...rom-MDI,155190

There is a map on this link that has youtube shots that can also help to give you an idea of the area. Lots of woods, ocean frontage, small ponds as well at the Acadia National Park. Southwest Harbor is on Mount Desert Island and is approximately 18 miles from Ellsworth.
http://www.kingsleighinn.com/location.html

DISTANCES

Southwest Harbor to Somesville is about 6 miles or 10 minutes.

Southwest Harbor to Bar Harbor is about 14 miles or 15-20 minutes.

Southwest Harbor to Bass Harbor is just 4 miles, or 5-10 minutes.

Southwest Harbor to Northeast Harbor is about 12 miles, or 15 minutes.

Southwest Harbor to the main entrance of Acadia, the Park Loop Road or the drive to the summit of Cadillac Mountain is about 18-20 minutes

Hope this gives you a better feel of the area.

Ellsworth Police Department There will be another search for Pete Peterson on Saturday, 10/16/10, at 9:00 am. They will meet at Pemetic School. They sure could use some volunteers in finding this man or information that might help to locate him. The Southwest police are looking for an older white sedan with orange New York plates.

According to Southwest Harbor Police department they are going to search again tomorrow. They are gathering at Pemetic school at 7:30 am. They are looking for people that can help search. This man has been gone for over a month with little leads. They have posted a list of things they have done in efforts to find this man any suggestions would be most helpful.

A Run for Pete

http://mdi.villagesoup.com/business/...064?cid=279823

By Mount Desert Island Marathon | Nov 15, 2010

Quote:
Local runners are organizing 'A Run for Pete.'

Mr. Peterson, 61, from Southwest Harbor, was last seen on or about September 22. He is a fixture between Southwest Harbor and Ellsworth, often hitchhiking between the two. He is autistic and loves to spend time in the towns respective libraries.

The run will start at the Southwest Harbor public library, located on Main Street on Sunday, November 28, at 7:00 am. It will follow the 20 mile route Mr. Peterson walked many times, all the way to the Ellsworth City library, located on State Street. The run will then return to Southwest Harbor via the same route after covering 40+ miles. The run is being held in order to help keep attention focused on this missing man and to literally keep and eye on the road sides all the way to Ellsworth and back for anything which might help locate Mr. Peterson. The run is being organized with the help of island-based Crow Athletics.

Human Remains found in Belmont by hunters. It is believed that the remains are of Charles Springer. Jeremy Alex is a missing person that disappeared from Northport which is approximately 10 miles away.

I can only imagine how both families are feeling waiting to find out if it is their loved one. My prays to both families.

One can only hope that Pete will be found soon. I am hoping that he will return home not realizing that he was missed. Hopefully marathon will bring more attention to finding Pete.

Thinking of Pete and hoping, praying that he had headed south. With winter upon us, snow is on the ground and fridged cold weather has definitely settleing in. Just thinking how one person affects many as we go through life. I have never met Pete but often wonder about him. His ritualistic patterns, from roaming the town, going down to the docks to watch the boats, to eating at the cafe, in a certain seat, to going to library and sitting there reading. He would always called his care giver every night before he went to bed to let her know he was ok. Thinking how could one just disappear, everyone knew of him from miles around and yet it only takes a few minutes to disappear, no trace. Pete is missed by many and many wonder what happen to this dear man. May God be with you Pete and may you soon be found.. Stay safe.
