Former priest already serving time after investigation


"Police have filed more than 200 charges and arrested 57 men in Canada and overseas after a 14-month investigation into child pornography.

The arrests that began in 2009 are the result of work by 13 law enforcement agencies, including Toronto police, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and German police. All the men arrested are alleged to be part of the same network. Twenty-five of the accused are Canadian and face a total of 131 charges, Toronto police Det. Paul Krawczyk said at a news conference Wednesday.

The men are from all over Canada, including Vancouver and Conception Bay South, N.L. Seven are from Toronto, Krawczyk said. At least one of the accused is from Quebec.

Toronto police said they didn't want to divulge too many details about the operation and possibly jeopardize future investigations...."

Police in St. John's confirmed the man Krawczyk was referring to is 51-year-old Robin Barrett, a former Anglican priest, of Conception Bay South.

Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Const. Edward Billard said Barrett was the first person charged as part of the investigation that police dubbed Project Sanctuary. "In November 2009, the RNC's child exploitation unit received information from the metropolitan Toronto police that led to a search warrant being executed on this individual's home," said Billard. Police in St. John's seized Barrett's computer equipment.

"Information extracted was passed on to the Toronto police and they did identify more individuals as a result of this and shared information with enforcement agencies inside and outside of Canada..."

It'll be just that much faster and cheaper two years from today."

A York University researcher charged in connection to an international porn ring took his own life Thursday, a day after the details of the case were made public.

Richard Dyde, 47, of Toronto, had been charged with two counts of making child pornography available, possession of child pornography and making child pornography.

The international probe led by Toronto Police - dubbed Project Sanctuary - involved 13 police departments across Canada, the U.S. and Europe. As a result of the project, there were 57 arrests and 25 children were rescued from abuse.

The British-born research associate at York University was released on bail Wednesday. Police said he committed suicide Thursday.

When they take their lives, is it really justice? His career was definitely over with such an accusation.

Cognitive neuroscience? The charges are interesting as he was charded with producing child pornography. It says that does not necessarily mean he made it but put it on a different medium? I didn't know that.

Hmmmmmmmm, Tobias Stimpson (Toby) a student at York was so appalled last year he wrote a letter to the Editor kind of deal about hospitals being public places and Religion and well a bunch of stuff.

A year later the guy is busted on child pornography charges. Hmmmpf.

Hi Filly, yes this is the same case. I saw his name yesterday but couldn't list them all. I knew Honker the Clown would get you so I put it in my header. Sad as it is to me, I've always wondered if the release on their own recognizance is not an allotted time for a man to discuss things with his "maker".

"NAPANEE, Ont. A local man who once worked as a clown and volunteered with Scouting groups has pleaded guilty to making and possession child porn, as well as sexually assaulting a minor. Randy Edward Miller, 40, appeared in front of Justice Stephen Hunter in provincial court in Napanee Thursday to face two counts of possession of child pornography, one count of making child pornography available and one count of sexual assault involving a minor. The details on the sexual assault are subject to a publication ban to protect the victim...."

I'm really curious as to whether "making" simply means downloading and trading. That's what it looks like.


And if you search for Honker the Clown on Google Images, a number of photos come up. Am I jaded or does the third photo of him dressed up as an elf and holding a balloon monkey or elf bother anyone else? It sure seems as if he had a certain shape down pat.
