Was he in Hailey's bedroom watching her (maybe planned to be his) new tv?
Was he carrying out some fantasy in Hailey's newly vacated room?
Was he hiding something incriminating that he retrieved later, and disposed of it when he was not in the house?
Did he remember that when he carried a sedated Hailey out of her room that he forgot to bring her shoes with him when he took her somewhere else, did what he did, then disposed of her. Perhaps he was "really reluctant" to return to that disposal site to place the shoes with her. Perhaps he had done such a clever concealment that there was no way to later add a few forgotten items. Maybe not even the shoes but something else that should have been with Hailey.
I think it would have had to be something connected with a criminal act for him to not answer the door. I wonder if there was any way he could have seen who was pounding away. Had he known it was only DD I bet he would have waited till DD went off to his room and then continued with whatever he had been interrupted/intercepted doing.
Maybe he had not prepared an answer yet when DD asked where HD was. (Maybe DD was accustomed to not seeing HD in the house when only SA was there. Hopefully, she had managed to avoid being alone with SA for two years.)

I agree that any of your possibilities are more likely than these, but still, a NON-criminal reason could have been:
Had headphones on listening to very loud music
Was in a very deep, sound sleep and wakes very slowly
Had television on so loud he didn't hear the knocking
Was in the shower and running water obscured the knocking
On the phone with someone and so focused he didn't notice knocking
In drugged stupor along with any of above
Any of these could have him shocked/frightened to see DD suddenly, since he hadn't HEARD the knocking, knew the doors were locked, and didn't expect him to be inside the house, causing "deer in headlights" look.
Of course, my best guess is none of the above. I think he was probably up to no good, almost caught, and hence the "look". If that was DD's first, pure, unfiltered, gut-level, knee-jerk intuition, I'd tend to give it considerable credence.
BUT, it could also be an entirely innocent thing. (don't think so)
POSSIBLE, though.

I'm not sure what you mean? Regional differences patterns of speech? In the affidavits? Not sure how one would do that...
Not sure how anyone's "grammar" has anything to do with what was written in there either, but what do I know?.. or maybe I'm just misunderstanding..I dunno...
You really think that especially in a high profile case like this and in a document that is being sent to a Judge that LE just jotted down info, not worrying about how it was worded and sent it on?...That would NEVER fly with the judges I have worked with..

I agree with those who are frustrated trying to pin down a basic timeline that stays pinned down! Here's one inconsistency that keeps nagging at me, especially since we learned that BD got rid of her living room couches a couple of days after Hailey disappeared:
Regarding: 12/26 p.m. from DD
DD states that he last saw Hailey at about 9 p.m. on 12/26. She was in the living room playing Xbox. He expected she'd play until about midnight. See affidavit.
http://www.ktxs.com/download/2011/0112/26466351.pdf
Regarding 12/26 p.m. from Billie Dunn:
From NG Transcript
GRACE: Billie, you have a 16-year-old son. What time did he leave the house the night before?
BILLIE DUNN: I thought he left around -- he says he left around 9:00 and Hailey was in his room playing his Xbox. I thought he left a little earlier.
Why does DD say Hailey was in the living room playing Xbox at the same time that Billie says she was in DD's room playing Xbox? Nobody but Shawn Adkins, prime suspect, has seen her since 12/26 p.m. and we still don't really know what she was doing or where she was. Did she really go to bed to watch tv before 10 or 11 p.m. like Billie says? Or, did she stay up on the living room couch (presumably) continuing to play Xbox as DD expected?
I'm worried that something happened on that couch and BD wants to place Hailey in bed instead. "Here, take the bed sheets, no problem". "She always slept on the couch up until a week ago when she got her new TV." "I peeked in on her in bed for peace of mind, but didn't touch her, so don't know if it was her." (all paraphrased)
Meanwhile, the couch is on its way to the dump (or the needy person who asked for it somewhere in the neighborhood) before it was determined that this was likely a criminal case. This is my last couch post ever - but it's really nagging at me - that dang couch!

TG, I didn't win a cute puppy when I least expected it. Kimster. you are so funny.
I guess I need to mull over The Monday and Tuesday again, which is a foggy place in my mind. Is LE going to go by "the dot system" where they give us more dots to connect?
In the meantime, keep hoping and praying Hailey can be found.

I'm trying as hard as I can right now to find where CD says that he went over when DD came to get him..It was said on NG and I JUST heard it again the other night..
|
I always assumed house locked, no one answered door and DD crawled in the window. I don't remember reading anywhere if DD went over to CDs house soon after this incident or he just told him what happened later when HD couldn't be found. It would be a big red flag to me if DD went over to CD shortly or immediately after to specifically tell him what happened.
I am not sure what to make of doors being locked and SA not answering pounding at the door. It certainly adds to SAs strange/unusual behavior but so many details are left out of this story. Did SA normally lock doors? Was he just surprised that someone crawled in the window? Was he interrupted having sex (alone or with someone other than BD), getting high, watching porn or doing something else he didnt want to get caught doing. Even in the affidavit, the source of this info is two people who weren't there and not from DD himself.
Now if DD was upset by this and went to CD and to relay the story then that would be a situation I could not come up with an explanation for.

So, if the son was at a friend's house, then did BD call the friend's phone? As someone mentioned, maybe BD did it that way to avoid a hassle speaking to Hailey directly, but Monday BD didn't care enough to check out where Hailey was, but then Tuesday there's a big hurry and concern on Billie's part that Hailey should be in her house.
Will I go bonkers if I stay on this case?
|
At the time it made perfect sense to me that she would call HER cell phone and see if Hailey and DD answered and checked in. But now we are hearing she called DD at a friends home and then asked him to track down Hailey. That does seem weird. DD would not even have the phone to look up MB's number. How does he know her number?

I know of one case of a missing child where someone was named by LE as a POI, then later, in a public announcement, cleared and taken off that status.
Does anyone know of a case of a missing child where someone was named a Suspect, and then later, officially taken off that status? I can't think of any off-hand, and just wondered if anybody else happened to know of one.

Billie Dunn said she was overwhelmed by the gracious gift. "Mentally I know I can't go back to work. I think of Hailey 24 ours a day so I know I can't focus there," said Dunn. She said she was starting to worry how the bills would get paid.

What about EE? The girl they just found passed away?
The 19 yr old son was arrested (for what i do not know and said to be involved, he and his dad were both arrested and booked at the same time, son was let go bonded out or something) and now his father is in jail for kidnapping and probably murder real soon. I don't know a lot of cases, there is probably more..

Its funny that you mention this because I was thinking of a couple very adult reasons why SA may have had the doors locked and why he would also have the "deer in headlights" look when DD came in...

Pondering, you'd think so, but when Ransom stated it was Michael Board from WOAI who said this - well, let's just say that Mr. Board has got a promising new career in small town city management ahead of him.
Earlier today, Board was on HLN stating that SA is the one and ONLY POI in Hailey's case, and not a suspect. :eyeroll:

Good example. His own father implicating him at the beginning, telling cops the girl ran off with his son.

Just trying to clear the muddiness a little....
DD spent the night with a friend Sunday night, and returned home Monday. Billie called DD on her cell phone (which was at her house for the kids to use) around noon on Tuesday. He was at home when she called him.
Can someone please post a link about DD getting Clint when he had to pound on the door and then went through a window to get into the house when the door was locked? I don't remember hearing this one before. tia

When I first read the transcript of the video interview with MB's mom on 1/23, I thought she seemed upset, and completely understood why.
I just now watched the video and got a whole different vibe. As a few wise posters advised, sometimes you need to watch the person talking to put the words in context of the intent. Video link below:
