Identified! Canada - Police say body found in Burnaby was that of a woman - Feb. 2011

Police revealed late Monday that the body is that of a woman who appears to have been a victim of some sort of violence.

Nothing indicates this is related to the discovery of a woman's body in a bag on the North Shore last week.

The area is very popular with dog walkers, and police say they have a lot of witnesses to speak with. The park is part of the Central Valley Walking and Cycling area, and is next to Burnaby Lake Regional Park.

"From a two-foot distance, what they're seeing suggests foul play," said Carr, who added that it is early in the investigation and he doesn't have much more information to release.
Carr wouldn't reveal the gender of the body found, but did confirm it was that of an adult. Carr said the body doesn't look like it has been there long, judging by the level of decomposition.
Carr said that currently, there is no indication the body's discovery is linked to gang violence or drugs.

Woman found near Burnaby park identified as Vancouver sex trade worker

The woman whose body was found Monday afternoon in a Burnaby park was identified on Tuesday as Carla Marie Smith, 27, of Vancouver.

She is known to Vancouver police for her involvement in the sex trade industry, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said today
