Pinellas detectives interview missing cadet's boyfriend
Video at link above.
Quote:
However, they say, he was not willing to speak with them.
In fact, Perry began to yell at the detectives and took off running out of the local police station in Elmira, New York.
He drove off and refused to speak with anyone.

Misleading headline. JMHO
He is not yet classified as a suspect.

David Perry has moved on to a new woman he met off of the Craig's List website, according to Pinellas detectives. He met his new girlfriend just two weeks after Kelly went missing....
Detectives say Perry told friends in New York that he now wants to move to Hawaii and begin a new life.
Detectives say they warned Melissa about Perry and his past.
Detective Michael Bailey from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said, "She told us she didn't care and that they worked everything out. We warned her. She said she could no longer assist us in the investigation and [search for Kelly]."...
However, Perry's daughters, Brittany and Brandy, both in their early 20s and each married, refused to cooperate and answer any questions.
|
Unbelievable! The girlfriend looks a lot younger than he is too (just like Kelly was). The "new" girlfriend even refuses to talk to the detectives! His daughters refuse to cooperate. What kind of hold does this creep have on these women?
I have a distinctly bitter taste in my mouth!

This article is from June 15th, but I didn't see it posted here yet.
"His bizarre behavior and lack of cooperation, coupled with [the fact that] detectives recently learned Perry began a new relationship with another woman shortly after Rothwell disappeared, has detectives now naming him a suspect in her disappearance," the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

Thanks for this update! Just a matter of time, now...
I'm always amazed when there's a girlfriend waiting in the wings - don't they think the same thing could happen to them?

Ceremony marks four months since Rothwell went missing
More than 100 people are expected to gather on the beach Tuesday, July 12, in a service of remembrance for Kelly Rothwell, the Indian Rocks Beach resident who vanished without a trace March 12.
The event flyer says the flower and candlelight gathering is intended to celebrate Kelly’s “beauty, her light, her love, her peaceful ways and the many gifts she left us with.”

OMG. This is ridiculous! He's not even married to her, and he gets to travel all of the way to Hawaii while on probation?!! Unbelievable.

Missing Police Cadet: five-month anniversary
She had a future full of promise and a heart filled with goodness.
Kelly Rothwell, her mother says, never said a bad word about anyone.
The young police cadet was the type of woman who would look for the good in people, including her boyfriend, ex-prison guard David Perry. David and Kelly had a tumultuous relationship for several years before she summoned the courage to break up with him.
That was five months ago.
[snip]
Detective Bailey said, "He's supposed to be gone for a month. Probably about a week from now is the time frame in which he has to be back. We'll find out if he's going to return from Hawaii or not."

Missing Police Cadet Honored at Fundraiser
As the sun peeked out from behind a cloud about 8 a.m. Saturday, Donna Scharrett was wide awake with 11 volunteers preparing breakfast for a cause she never envisioned herself being part of sixth months earlier.
The pancake breakfast fundraiser at the Church of Isles on Indian Rocks Beach honored Kelly Rothwell, 35, a former St. Pete police cadet and resident of Indian Rocks Beach who disappeared March 12.

Wow, I have been hearing alot of fraud cases recently. Just last week they had caught about 20 people defrauding the Tax Collector of Palm Beach County but of course none of these people are suspects in disapperance cases.

Group from NC Spotlight Kelly's Case
Quote:
With the shimmering blue water of Tampa Bay as a backdrop, advocates from the North Carolina-based CUE Center for Missing Persons gathered with locals to remember Kelly Rothwell, a 35-year-old woman who went missing in March from her Gulf beach condo. A guitarist sang songs, Rothwell's best friend read a poem and people released butterflies toward the sky.

This is why he went to Hawaii in August
http://www.tampabay.com/news/prime-s...hawaii/1203192
The prime suspect in the disappearance of police cadet Kelly Rothwell has married a woman he started dating shortly after Rothwell was reported missing.
David Perry, 47, who has refused to talk to investigators, married 37-year-old Melissa Walker in Hawaii in August, according to investigators with Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

I live on the boarder of Pinellas, know it well. I wish I could figure out where she could be so that they had a case against the POC.

Thanks for posting that link Sleuthster - most interesting! I'm amazed when a gal marries a guy who has cheated on his wife - in that the new gal thinks somehow her Mr. Right won't cheat on her.
Well, this raises that amazement to a whole new level!

Detectives get break in Kelly Rothwell case
http://www.wtsp.com/news/article/225...-Rothwell-case
"The woman who called detectives with the tip was walking her dog along Eagle Lake Park when she saw someone that she said was David Perry. She told detectives he hid behind a palm tree right after they locked eyes. At that second, she knew it was David Perry."

The quoted article is no longer available, so I am just assuming that the list of items pertain to the items detectives found in Perry & Rothwell's home right after Kelly disappeared. I'm wondering who the marriage license and dissolution of marriage paperwork belonged to. I don't remember details from earlier articles - was one of them married previously?
It would be interesting to know who the active passports were for, too.

Human leg washes up in St Pete
not sure how long its been there but it made me think of this case. Would a leg take longer to decompose in water?

So sad. First credible lead in months and only five people show up to look for her.
Re: the leg that washed up on shore, from what I've read it belonged to a heavyset person and was only in the water for 1-2 days. So I don't think it belongs to her. Maybe it will get people thinking about her case again, though.

This case is a sad reminder of Michelle Parker's, in that LE seems to have their "suspect" but have been unable to do anything about it, with Kelly still not found...
