Steven Howard Missing
5’08 160lbs
Tan shirt and blue jeans
Reported: April 28, 2011 8:20 pm
Location of incident: Haw Road, Reidsville
Reporting officer: Sgt. Jason Hutchins
Reporting person: Gwynn Howard, 48, 1405 Willow Oak Dr. Burlington, NC
Victim: Steven Wayne Howard, 22, 1515 S. Mebane Street Burlington, NC
Josh McLamb and his friend Steven Howard spent time yesterday visiting
friends and riding around. Steven had become intoxicated, agitated and
demanding during that time and had called his girlfriend, Lindsey
VanWeest, to take him home.
The two pulled over on the side of the road near the Haw Road to wait for
Steven’s girlfriend to arrive. After about 45 minutes of waiting, Josh left on
foot to walk to his residence. Steven was sitting in the car listening to the
radio and waiting on the girlfriend.
When Lindsey VanWeest arrived, Steven was not to be found.
Triad Blookhounds were called to the scene and was able to only track
from the car to a short distance away on Highway 150. No one has yet
heard from Steven, and family members are extremely concerned.
Detective Dan Hardy asks anyone with information about the incident
or has knowledge where Steven may be located to call him at 634-
3232 or call Crime Stoppers at 336-349-9683.

I think this is a very interesting case. I am assuming the guy's car was still there? The press doesn't state that for sure, but does say that they brought bloodhounds out and they tracked him a short distance to the highway, so I can only assume the car was still there. there is also an 18 year old kid missing from Greensboro, sort of between Burlington and Riedsville (David Brooks Ferrell, Jr.). David (Brooks) has been missing since Wednesday night and Steven since Thursday night.

David Ferrell has been found. His car with body in it was found in a lake.
Still no word on Steven? This is bizarre.

When asked if Howard may have disappeared because of pending criminal charges he has coming up in Alamance County – including felony and misdemeanor drug charges – she said that she does not believe that is the case.

This case is getting stranger. Now they are saying that the girlfriend never found the car (or the place where she thought she was picking him up). It has also been reported that she tried to call because she was lost and he would not answer. I called the sheriff's office to volunteer to help with a foot search and the first two people (dispatch & whoever answered the phone at the sheriff's office) had no idea what I was even talking about. Understand, this is not a high crime area and people don't go missing around here a whole lot. They should know what I am talking about if I call. I was transferred to a detective's voice mail who never called back. Guess drunk 22 year olds with drug charges don't top their list of important stuff. Anyway, a friend who knows someone there called for me and found out that they are not doing any foot searches, but are getting a state helicopter to search. Wonder what that means. They can't be looking for his car because they already have it.

So Steven Howard & Josh Lamb are driving around and Steven gets agitated. They go park within walking distance of Josh's house to wait for Steven's girlfriend to pick him up. They hang out for 45 minutes and then Josh walks home. Steven's girlfriend never finds where they were supposed to meet.
What's wrong with this picture? Something is not quite right. Why park on the side of the road when you are near your friend's house? Wouldn't you want to leave your car somewhere a little more safe? If Steven was being a jerk, why hang out with him for 45 more minutes? Why didn't Steven answer his phone when Lindsay tried to call during those 45 minutes?

Though Rockingham County investigators have called off the search for a missing Burlington man, following a possible sighting over the weekend, the man’s family isn’t convinced something tragic hasn’t happened to 23-year-old Steven Howard.

Some locals that knew him do not believe that it is him who was spotted.

When I first read about him being intoxicated, my initial thought was that he got out of the car, accidently stumbled onto the road and was hit by a passing car. However, I do wonder why he was pulled over on the side of the road in the first place. Very strange. I hope he is alive and I surely hope the police give this case the attention it deserves.

Very very sad. What a shame. Too bad the police around here never gave a **** about him or his case.

Absolutely nothing, and it kinda makes me mad. Why do some cases get all the attention and some just disappear. There is another missing young man from our area, Josh Wetzel has been missing two years and nothing has ever been done to try to find out why/where.
Even after Steven's body was found nothing has been done. At least two counties should be involved (the body was found in Guilford) yet nothing is happening that I am aware of, and I do talk to the girlfriend via facebook from time to time.
