WV - Earnest Edward Francis, 32, New Martinsville, 4 May 2011

Earnest Francis Missing since 5/4/2011

Earnest's Facebook Page

His mother is using every local internet resource that I can find to get the word out about him being missing. She just posted the details of the car and what the police found on his facebook page.

This is a local missing person for me.

Can we discuss what the mother is posting on his facebook page about what was inside the car that was found? I can't get a handle on what can be posted and what can't and I dont' want to mess up. I will add more news coverage in a minute.

Mother says the items found in the car were hidden under the seat. I do that when I'm going somewhere and don't want to carry the stuff. Hide it under the seat and just take my car keys with me.

Still reading the facebook page. His mother states that the dogs hit on his scent in the cemetary beside long john silvers and again behind tractor supply. That means he probably walked from where the car was found, east, cut through the cemetary, across the road and around back behind the tractor supply. there is a lot of stores in that area.

They found his car at Hydro, picked up his scent at the cemetary beside long john silvers and again behind tractor supply. I think they should search the woods behind tractor supply. It looks very rugged back there. Google maps has the tractor supply at the wrong location. It's the big building in the center of the plaza north of where long john silvers is. I'm trying to google map this but I can't get it to work on my computer.

If he was walking the whole way, wouldn't the dogs pick up his scent in more than just those two places?

Is it customary in a missing persons case to return items found back to the family before the missing person is found?

Byers said there is no reason at present to suspect foul play. "All we want to do is make sure he is OK," said Byers, who noted that motorized and foot searches have been conducted by NMPD, New Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department and Tyler County Search and Rescue.

Did anyone see the picture of Earnest with his 4 little children on Easter morning? Heartbreaking. It's on his facebook page. I will be putting out more posters this morning.

The family is concerned that LE isn't doing enough, but I don't see what else they can do at this point. There are no leads as to where he could be.

Search Continues For Missing Sistersville Man

New Martinsville Police Sgt. Dave Byers, who also is with Tyler County Search and Rescue, said the photo of Francis is from his Facebook page and he may be heavier now.

Francis was reportedly wearing a black top, green flannel shirt, black jeans, sandals and glasses.

According to the newspaper article, his wallet and cell phone was found inside his car.

Crews Searching For Missing Father Of 4

Francis, of Sistersville, is 5' 10" tall and 190 pounds. He has blue eyes with sandy red hair.

After a ground search turned up nothing, rescue teams headed for the Ohio River and boats from Wheeling and McMechen each took out a K9 unit in hopes of finding some trace of Francis.

Police said they have no indication that Francis is in the river, but they aren't sure what happened to him so they said they want to comb the area and rule it out.

What struck me was that not only was his wallet and cell phone in the car, but also his house keys and his belt.

Belt? Why would his belt be off?
Did he make it to work that day?
It doesn't sound like it.

Anyone done a map of that area yet? I am not that good with maps.

Is the Hydro Park area a place that swimming would be unusual or would it be permitted?

It worries me that a belt, phone, keys and wallet stuffed under a seat sound a lot like someone who was going for a swim and didn't want those items to get wet.

I know the dogs followed a trail--but what if he had walked up toward food (?) and then back along the same way and then into the water?

I don't know what the weather was or if there is even real water access there, but I just can't shake the idea that those are exactly the items (especially if a leather belt) I would take off if going in the water in clothing--for whatever reason.

Per FB page, his mom wrote that,
he left her house Wed. 3pm, to take 3 children to an appt. He had borrowed his brother's car. After that, he told his wife he was going to get gas and go to work.
Gas being bought caught on security tape.
He called his brother 5:36pm to ask if he could keep the car to go to work.
It has been said that he was seen at 9pm leaving the Hydro Dam leaving in another car.
He never made it to work.
Fri., May 6, his mom called his boss and they had not seen him.
His brother went looking for him and found the car around 2pm.
The personal things were found under the car seat, including his necklace piece with the string missing. His car key missing. No blood found in car or on ground.

If anyone tries to do a google map of the locations, google has the tractor supply in the wrong location. Tractor supply is across the road and north in the plaza from where google says it is. I tried to do it but my internet is to slow to do google maps.

I wish LE had checked his computer & house. So far only the mother has checked those. I can't tell if LE checked the cell phone or if the mother only checked it.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone swimming in the Ohio. The water is polluted and nasty smelling. It was not a warm day. mid 50's according to the weather history for the day.

I grew up on the Ohio, further downstream, and we used to swim in it, go boating and waterskiing etc all the time.....until we got into our late teens and realized how yucky it really was! That was almost 30 years ago, so sure it is even worse now.

to the locals: Does this map look correct?
Sistersville is about 12 miles south of New Martinsville
(I am not the best at maps)

That would be the direct route, but I think there are cut through paths that he could have taken. Where the mark is for tractor supply, his scent was picked up in the back of that large building in the middle of the plaza. Good job with the map!

I am not convinced that it was him who parked the car there. The daughter of the woman who said she saw a car speed away says it wasn't Earnest that she saw. Maybe he left before she saw the other person get into another car and leave? Or maybe it wasn't him who drove the car there?

I was also trying to find out if there are docks at Hydro Park. Could he have gotten in a boat with someone. The mother said on facebook that his uncle hauls gravel on the river and they've used their sonar to check the bottom of the river.

We still haven't heard from Earnest's wife. The mother has said that Earnest's father and his two brothers have been harasssed since Earnest has been reported missing.

We have had a rash of men murdered and missing in the last few weeks in WV. Scary!

oh yea, it's much worse now!

I was thinking though, maybe he was getting on a speed boat and that's why he left those things in the car. Didn't want the water sprayed from the boat to get them wet? I can't find out if there are boat docks at the park. I may have to just drive up there an look for myself.

Is it just me, or does nothing in this sound right? I mean everything thats being said and done is all messed up to me. From day one that I heard about him going missing, all the stories have changed. First he was helping a friend in new matinsville work on his car, now he was going to work? When in the family gave statements to police & (facebook) he was layed off! With him and his kids & wife living at his mothers. I saw on the facebook page that his father was mowing his grass at his house and at his mothers house! Makes no sense to me. Now if you look back on the facebook page them posts have all been takin off. I'm sure the police are watching the facebook page just like I am. Yes this is a fake name, cause I dont need the drama from speaking my peace. I do have concerns that the family knows more then they are letting on. Also I heard (RUMOR). from a family member that 6 months ago a insurance policy was takin out on him. ( I pray that this is untrue ) & the family has clean hands. They want everyone to help, but they are not giving info that they know about him going missing. Why is that the brother found the car and not the police. I mean all his stuff could have been planted in the car before cops were called. It really hard when nothing makes sense. One bit of truth would be great. I give full sopport but I will not be made a fool. Unlike many others I've put 2-2 together. So many others feel the same way. They just wont say anything. What about the girl who said she saw the car speeding off but he wasnt driving. Why is that it was a next day full out search, why no finger prints takin at the time the car was found. So many questions. Without answers. Ive even asked questions to the family, but they will not give and answers, They just say thanks for helping. I dont know what to think. I just want real answers and not what they want us to know. The more we know the more it will help find him. Oh another thing, his family has a boat right??? Well doesnt that seem strang that the scent was followed to the fiver then stopped, then followed to tractor supply, then grave yard. Then it went cold. If i'm right it did rain the next day. If he's in the water, then he's in real trouble after 13 days. This is very sad for his kids. they are so innocent. My post isnt rude, or ment to hurt any feelings. I just want to say what others are thinking. I hope he is found. I hope with all my heart. but we need some truth. Dave byers doesnt think faulplay as of yet, but I feel in time things are gonna hit the fan. I think the amerihost inn would have camras that might help figure this out. also the bank the day he drove by, also walmart would camra's pointing down that way to see him driving down there. I think them places need thier camra's pulled and viewed. I bet then some questions would be answered. Wouldnt the damm have camra's also, from all this 9-11 stuff going on.
