FL - Toni Contarino, 43, Port Orange FL 26 Jul 2011
A Port Orange woman who has been missing since Tuesday is a Volusia County animal control officer, officials said this morning.
Toni Contarino, 43, hasn't been been since about 2 p.m, Port Orange police said. A co-worker of Contarino's, Volusia animal control officer Sergio Pacheco, confirmed that Contarino is an animal control officer with the county.
Police said Contarino was depressed Tuesday when she left work. It's not clear why.
The search for her began about 2 p.m. after police learned that Contarino had left her apartment complex on a blue and silver mountain bike and was possibly in the area off Pioneer Trail and Martin Dairy Road.

A deputy and a detective were at 43-year-old Toni M. Contarino's home on Wednesday afternoon. Contarino works for animal control and her work truck was in the driveway.
According to a missing persons report, Contarino came home early from work. Her mother told police she looked depressed and she deleted all of her friends from Facebook.
Contarino's mother also told police that she hasn't seen her since she left for a bike ride, leaving her cellphone and other items at home. Contarino was last seen wearing a green shirt and khaki pants.

Search Organized
Quote:
Friends of Volusia County animal control officer Toni Contarino are trying to organize a search for her today, two days after the apparently distraught woman disappeared from her home.
It's the second time in just over a month that the longtime county employee disappeared and left notes with suicidal remarks, Port Orange police said.
This morning friends of Contarino's in the animal rescue community are attempting to organize a search for her, said volunteer Shira Wild today.
."She's an awesome person and I think she's forgotten that," Wild said. "If we rescue her, it would be frickin' awesome."
A friend of Contarino's who asked not to be identified said she had been trying to reach Contarino for the last two months. That's when Contarino apparently began dropping friends from her Facebook page. That's also about the time Contarino's three-year relationship with her former partner -- a sheriff's deputy -- began to go downhill, the friend said.
The same friend said Contarino also left a suicide note for one of her colleagues in the animal control division on Tuesday.
As of Wednesday afternoon, police still had not found Contarino's blue and silver Next mountain bike, Surmaczewicz said.
