OR - Pamela Salant, 28, Mt Hood Nat'l Forest, 31 July 2011
snip
Pamela Salant, 28, and her boyfriend Aric Essig planned to camp at Bear Lake at the base of Mount Defiance overnight Saturday. When they arrived at the lake, they dropped their gear at a campsite, but the pair somehow became separated at the lake in search of a better overnight spot.
That was the last time Salant was seen, deputies say.
Just prior to 8 a.m. Sunday, Essig called the Hood River County Sheriff's Office to report his girlfriend missing.
snip
Salant was last seen wearing dark-colored shorts and a dark red or blue tank top. She is described as 5'3" tall and 125 pounds with blonde hair.
Deputies say Salant did not have a cell phone with her and had no supplies.

I'm hoping to learn why she was reported missing the next morning and not sooner if the last time she was seen was noon..
Local updates should be at 10pm and 11pm PST news..

That statement seems odd. I need more details about how they became separated as the explanation is too vague.

On live news (hope KPTV12 puts the video they just showed on the website)
the boyfriend said he said "something" that offended her, he thought she may be
angry..
He also said she was not experienced in hiking etc.. (I did look way back on her FB, hiking up in the mt's in Peru)
Don't know what to think on this one.., am hoping she is found, this is her 3rd night missing.
Search called off for the night...

That doesn't sound good at all. Sounds similar to the Patti Krieger case in WA. She was hiking with some family/friends and became "upset" and walked away.
Interesting that he would say she wasn't an experienced hiker... Like you said, freefallzzzz, her Facebook page says differently.

He also said later that evening he heard voices from another camping area and thought maybe she was up hanging out with those campers...
Man I hope that video is posted. I'll watch for it...
11pm PST news comes on locally I'm sure other stations interviewed him also.

KGW is reporting now that she left after an "argument." Sounds a bit stronger than the "somehow separated," or "may be offended" from earlier reports. The also interviewed the boyfriend who is helping with searches. It's hard to say what would be going through one's head to wait through the night before reporting someone missing - I'm currently "oscillating" between foul play and him being incredibly naive. Either way, hoping Pamela is found safe.

Salant was supposed to work Monday at the Treehouse Nursery in Southeast Portland, where she's the preschool's lead teacher. Her friends and colleagues have been anxiously awaiting word about her whereabouts.

Bear Lake, OR weather:
highs in 60's, lows in 50's.
It is at the base of Mt Hood, about 3800 ft elevation.
So, it is Sat. night. Coolish.
She is wearing shorts and a tank top.
She has no camping gear with her.
She has no cell phone.
She has no GPS.
What is in her backpack? Or is there one at the campsite?
In the video of the bf, he is wearing a sweatshirt and it is daytime.
I know I am overly suspicious of a significant other when someone comes up missing, but........
But, something is not right about his story.
When is the last time anyone else saw her?

Did not find the video from KPTV but they did include part of what he said and updated the article
snip
"All I can hope is that she's safe and she's okay," said Aric Essig, Salant's boyfriend.
He says he they planned to camp overnight at Bear Lake but separated after dropping their gear at the campsite around 12:30pm Saturday.
"I went around one way; she went around the other. I thought she did, but she actually didn't, and that was the last I saw of her."
Essig says it was supposed to be only a brief separation and he expected to meet Salant back at camp, but she never returned.
"After six hours, I was concerned, and I heard some voices up in the woods of what I thought was another group," said Essig. "I thought maybe she was hanging out with them."
Essig says he started looking all over for his girlfriend, then called the Hood River County Sheriff's Office Sunday morning.

Here are more quotes I found from the b/f
"She doesn't have a lot of wilderness survival experience, but she is capable and competent, and we've hiked extensively together," said Essig. "At this point, it's like a worst case scenario because she should have been able to hike out from this."
Essig says he plans on staying near Bear Lake and working with search and rescue crews day and night to try and re-trace her possible footsteps.
"I'm going to be going all day, every day, scouring the woods until she's found, no question," said Essig.

Those quotes sound a bit better, thanks freefallzzzz. Could be poor reporting that's making him sounds suspicious. I guess time will truly tell.

From an interview w/another station
I would suggest watching the video where they interview him..(link below)
Salant got separated from Essig after he said they split up to find a better campsite. She has not been seen since.
" I walked all around the lake expecting to meet up with her at some point, and I walked all the way back to the camp and just didn't see her," he said.
Essig gave search crews a briefing Monday of where he searched last for Salant, which was a steep rocky area not far from the couple's campsite.
"My worst fear is that on Saturday she was trying to get down there and it was getting late, and it was dark and she was like, probably, we had to get down there and that was like the steepest part," he said.
Essig said his mind has been swimming trying to figure out what happened to his girlfriend.
"Really bizarre. It's one of those things that you never think would happen to you."
He said he’ll just keep searching until he finds her.
Essig said he and Salant got into a small argument but he described it as a small tiff and said she wouldn't have left the mountain without him.

Ok, I watched the video at http://www.katu.com/news/local/126540513.html. I don't have sound at work so I focused totally on the boyfriend's expressions and tics, and my opinion is that he is being deceptive about something. It could be something rather innocent, like perhaps the argument was worse than he says and he feels guilty. I can imagine him wanting to downplay the argument if she was upset and left the campsite to get away from him. Maybe I've just been playing too much L.A. Noire.

Heres a link to a short hiking trail description/map with mouse-over pics of a Bear Lake hiking trail. If Pamela is an experienced hiker, then this hike would be no problem for her, even if she took the more strenuous approach from the north that is mentioned, although it is always possible she was injured and cannot walk out on her own.

That's the impression, I got pomegranate. To me, he comes across as trying to downplay the argument because he knows it looks bad and he feels guilty. That said, my opinion may change once more comes out - with his first quotes, I suspected him, and the second wave of info introduced doubt.
If there were other campers out there, who knows? She could have fallen victim to anyone.
