The sandal might be something similar to this, apparently called a "deluxe cast sandal." There are also cast boots and shoes that fit more like boots and shoes, respectively.

The Wikipedia entry on "orthopedic cast" says: "Similarly, a cast shoe/cast boot/cast sandal may be provided to the patient to be utilized during ambulation of the immobilized limb during convalescence (referred to as being weight bearing). Additionally, a castshoe may be used to simply protect the patients casted foot while helping to maintain a higher degree of hygiene preventing the cast from directly contacting potentially dirty or wet ground surfaces."
But our John Doe had only bandages on his lower legs; there is no mention of a cast. Can anyone with medical experience explain why someone might have had his legs bandaged and been given a cast sandal for one foot? Do we have any missing men who had recently been released from a hospital?

Judging by his outfit and the bandages, it seems like he wandered off (or was "helped") from a hospital/rehab center/nursing home.

per the NJ State Police's website where the UID was found "is frequented by homeless individuals and transients". not to minimize their existence, but it is a tough demographic to match.

it would help if the sources got their information on the same page.
Namus just says yellow metal ring and watch while the State's website says gold ring and a designer watch.

Are they bandages, as in like ACE bandages? Gauze? I know that when you have been through a surgery, or are immobile for a long period of time they use wraps to keep blood clots from forming in your lungs. So if he had hurt his foot, and was told to stay off it, some docs might have those to be on the safe side.

What about Robert Wiltsie? He was last seen at a hospital even though it is quite a distance away...

Could you tell if a mumified body had tattoos? I'm not sure how long it takes for a body to mumify either?
David Hudson last seen at a VA hospital on 7/11/2011 so not sure if that would be enough time?

It says he was partially skeletonized and partially mummified so I'm guessing it could go either way re:the tattoos depending on whether the body part skeletonized.

I believe so. Makes me believe this man was homeless or a vet with limited funds/medical care.
