Rittman police have located human remains in an isolated wooded area, acting on a tip from a resident.

Rittman police say they are still processing the scene, and have launched an investigation.

No information about the remains are available yet and the investigation is still in its very early stage

A Rittman resident told newsnet5.com that field is just off of South Main Street along Chippewa Creek.
The Wayne County Coroner and the Bureau of Criminal identification and Investigation Crime Scene Unit spent Tuesday processing the scene.
Police have not yet established the identity, gender, or age of the remains, nor have they determined how long they have been at the scene.
The cause of death also remains under investigation.

well, there are 6-7 ohio people missing currently (in the missing forum) however none of them are from this immediate area. That being said, Cleveland is only 40-45 minutes away as there is access to the interstate near Rittman. Here are threads for those missing in Ohio currently:

this is S. Main street woods near the creek on morton salt property where the remains were allegedly found. As a college student I used to work at PCA which was on the same property as MS (it has since closed) but I know this area well.

Rittman is only 46 miles or so from Cleveland, where Amanda Berry is missing from. By this point, though, I imagine Amanda's remains would be skeletal.

Guess I always get a little twinge of dark hope whenever bodies pop up in Ohio that maybe she's been found......

they have up no trespassing signs, etc but people go back there... in fact iirc it was a hunter that found the remains... I am not sure if MS allows hunters back there with permission or if this guy was just out there in the woods...

i wonder how close this is to the wal-mart DS (Venus Stewart's hubby) was at in Ohio. remember she is missing from MI but her hubby had a receipt for tarp or something from a walmart in Ohio. that was one of the things they used to arrest him.

Wayne County coroner Dr. Amy Joliff confirmed to Fox 8 on Wednesday that the bones are human and that they have been there for more than six months.

Investigators would not confirm if they found any clothing or other personal articles at the scene.

"We have to find as much evidence as we can and then try to piece it together and see what we have,'' said Sgt. Robert Shows of the Rittman Police.

Sgt. Pauley told Fox 8 Wednesday afternoon that they did not even have a complete body.

I used to work at PCA (packaging corporation of america) when in college which is on this same property as MS (has since closed) but I know the area (grew up a few miles away in Sterling, Ohio). There is a lot of truck traffic at this plant and the area has close access to I-76

Wayne County Coroner Amy Jolliff was overseeing the scene, Shows said. The area where the bones were found was about one mile west of South Main Street down a cinder road then "deep into the woods," Shows said.

BCI agents are working on grid-by-grid pattern to locate more bones. Shows said they are starting in a known area and working outward.

There are no reports of missing people in which to link the remains, Shows said.

Some people have speculated the bones could be from Susan Ryan, a Wooster woman who went missing June 5, 2010.

"It's a possibility, but from what we have, we can't tell. We have to collect the information," Shows said, adding later, "We don't have a dental record. We have to collect dental evidence."

The clothes the person was wearing have deteriorated. Flooding in the spring, the hot summer weather and possible animal activity have provided challenges.

The bones are the second set to be found in the area in the past three years. In September 2008, the bones of an African American woman were found off of a township road in Holmes County. The woman still is unidentified and listed on the FBI's Violent Criminal Apprehension Program website.
