At approximately 8:30 a.m., according to APSO spokeswoman Maxine Trahan, hunters located what they believed to be a human bone near Zaunbrecher Road, which lies outside the city limits of Rayne.

The hunters located the bone near railroad tracks and contacted the Rayne Police Department.

...

“As of this time we cannot determine the race, gender or age of the deceased nor can we tell how long the person has been dead,” said Trahan.

...

Trahan says they believe the deceased may not be from around the area as both the sheriff’s office and Rayne Police Department have not had missing persons reported.

Posted this information to the Brandon Lavergne thread. Although, his known criminal history is crimes against women only, the location is near Lavergne's home and the timeline fits the time he was not in prison.

Some of the links are dead but it's unclear whether they think this person is associated with the train link or just happened to be dumped near train tracks (or maybe they just don't know). The track through Rayne runs along the southernmost route and routes extend into TX (west) and MS (east) Rayne is about 20mi west of Lafayette.
There is a good map of Louisiana passenger (Amtrak) lines at https://cenlamar.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/louisiana-railway-map.jpg?w=750

Missing since 2006 from Jackson MS enroute to Baton Rouge LA via the Greyhound; was it possible he ended up on a train? (Fits height but over the age estimate.)
