Charges at Last Against Mother and Uncle of Jassi Sidhu
Quote:
The RCMP’s E Division spokesperson, Cpl. Annie Linteau, broke some big news Friday evening – after 11 years, the mother of slain newlywed Jassi Sidhu, and Sidhu’s uncle, have finally been charged for their alleged role in her contracted killing in India.
The young Maple Ridge beautician went to India to marry the love of her life – a poor rickshaw driver named Mithu Sidhu. Her wealthy family back here in B.C. was furious she had violated their wishes.
She was tortured and murder. Mithu was also attacked but survived.
The mother and uncle were suspects in her murder all along, but only the hired killers went to trial in India – until now.
Now Malkit Kaur Sidhu, 63, and Surjit Singh Badesha, 67, have been arrested and will face an extradition hearing in B.C. Supreme Court to see if they’ll be extradited to India.

Sidhu was glad to hear the news, according to Dawson, but still lives in fear.
"[He's] overwhelmed with what has transpired and he's hoping this will be the beginning of a process that will bring some justice for his Jassi. He has lived through quite a bit," Dawson said.
