AUGUSTA, Maine – Maine Forest Service forest rangers, under the Maine Department of Conservation, are assisting the search for a missing, 12-year-old Dresden boy with the use of the agency’s helicopter, ranger pilot and ranger observer, according to MFS officials.

Assisting the Maine Warden Service, the MFS forest rangers are using the agency’s Bell Jet Ranger helicopter to look for Micah Thomas, 12, of Dresden, reported missing on Wednesday.

As of 11 a.m., the MFS helicopter had landed at the Dresden command post and was joined by MFS Ranger Dan Skillin, who is acting as flight observer. The helicopter is being piloted by Ranger Pilot Chris Blackie.

The MFS team is using a global positioning system to determine where they have searched, according to Ranger Lt. Jeff Currier. When the helicopter lands for refueling, the information will be put into the computer map being constructed for the search “to insure full coverage of the search area,” Currier said.

DRESDEN — Maine game wardens using dogs and airboats continue to search this morning for a 12-year-old Dresden boy reported missing by his father Wednesday afternoon when the boy did not arrive home after school.
