In normal circumstances when the police roll up on a scene where one person is dead, and the other admits to being the shooter several things happen that simply did not happen here. The police take pictures and document any injuries that the shooter has, they take a statement, they interview neighbors, they collect evidence, the cell phone, they find out about the 911 calls. They have drug and alcohol tests done on both the shooter and the deceased. They look at the totality of the circumstances and turn all the actual evidence they have over to the Prosecutors office.
What they don't do is hear the shooter say it was self defense, and shrug and say OK and send him on his way. They don't NOT ask questions, document evidence, they don't simply NOT bother to try and discover if this was truly self defense....and in this case that will bite them on the butt hard, because there is ample if not an over abundance of actual evidence that shows that this was anything BUT self defense....stand your ground is NOT going to be Zimmermans get out of jail free card because the evidence show quite plainly that he was NOT defending himself.
Just because he says it does not make it so.

Imo there is no question that when the police arrived, GZ lied and decided to use this defense. But, I am getting very concerned as I listen to attorneys and others on local news stations when they talk about this law. I think it is a bad law and can be used by criminals and *unusual* people like GZ.
With one dead and one alive, the living get to tell their side of it, closed case. Thankfully, Trayvon's family persisted. But there may be other cases that no one hears about because no one is arrested.
I hope this law is revised. JMO

Sounds like it's the Good 'ol Boy network at it's best....If you are in the in crowd you have nothing at all to fear. So your buddy's kid punches a homeless guy and breaks his face...no worries, you don't have to charge him.
I think these guys have been big fish in a small pond for a long time, and are used to doing as they darn well please, who cares about protocol or standard police procedure, they do things their own way, after all who's going to stop them?
At least up till now that is.

I agree, they need to tighten that thing up considerably...I do not think that having a duty to attempt to retreat, maybe not from your home, but on a public street is not really an onerous burden when you are talking about using deadly force be it gun or knife, and make no mistake about it I am NOT a gun advocate...I just don't think that the vast majority of people should have a gun, since many of them are not psychologically fit to have one, nor trained in the use care and responsibilities of gun ownership, but sadly you have to take more tests, and pay for a license to own a dog, but you can buy a sporting gun anywhere.

Questions I have about GZ's call:
1. Just after GZ says "these ***holes, they always get away," there is a noise. I wonder if that was him getting his gun from the glovebox?
2. What did GZ mean when he said TM was running down toward the other entrance? Initially I thought he meant south on Twin Trees. Like maybe TM was walking fast and then cut between two of the units. But that doesn't line up with where he was killed--if he was halfway down the block and made it to the pathway between the backyards, I'd think he'd just launch himself toward his house rather than run back north in the backyards.
3. Toward the end GZ can't tell the address where his truck was parked, because "it's a cut-through," so I guess his truck ended up at the curve where Twin Trees heads south and the sidewalk comes in?
4. After 40-plus calls to report suspicious activity, why was GZ reluctant to provide his home address to this dispatcher on this call?

He says on the call he doesn't want to give it out because he "doesn't know where this kid is" or something like that. That tell you that GZ had to either go find him, or he was lying.

I sure hope someone in LE somewhere is watching GZ. This happened over 3 weeks ago now - does anyone really know where he is? Did he go into hiding? Where is he - physically? He could have left the country by now - and all legal like too boot - there's nothing to keep him here and I can't imagine him actually staying in the area with all the tension building.

I only disagree with one small thing, at the end the spokeswoman said that for the big rally they are expecting or hoping for 1000 out of town visitors and she wants to make sure that the locals are well represented, and I understand, but I hope they underestimate the amount of peaceful and law abiding out of towners who are there to help effect change.
I hope that there are enough people there to let everyone know that most of us do not see this a a crime issue or a law issue, we just know that if our Constitution which states "all men are created equal" is to mean anything, if we want to retain any claims to a civilized society this kind of thing simply can't exist in our country.

I would imagine he is in hiding! The cover story he told is getting blown apart and he is surely realizing that though it may be easy for some to turn a blind eye to the tragic death of a young man, the rest of the world will not play along! We want an explanation for why this young man is gone! A simple "self-defense" with nothing to back it up isn't going to cut it! I wonder if he has a passport? What is the closest island without extradition treaties with the US?
