Donna Summer passes away at 63

http://www.tmz.com/2012/05/17/donna-...ad-last-dance/

Donna Summer -- the Queen of Disco -- died this morning after a battle with cancer ... TMZ has learned.

We're told Summer was in Florida at the time of her death. She was 63-years-old.

Sources close to Summer tell us ... the singer was trying to keep the extent of her illness under wraps. We spoke to someone who was with Summer a couple of weeks ago ... who says she didn't seem too bad.

Wow, this was certainly unexpected. Loved roller skating to her music back in the day.

Sleep peacefully, Donna. Sure you have them all dancing in heaven.

UPDATE-
9:27 AM PST- TMZ has learned ... Donna died from lung cancer. Several sources are telling us Donna believed she contracted it by inhaling toxic particles after the 9/11 attack in New York City

So sorry to learn of her passing... I wasn't a big fan back when, but I recognize a dynamo when I hear one! She was a huge influence, (many pounds of fat were lost by folks dancing their butts off alllll around the world!) she leaves a tremendous legacy of songs that dare you to not move to them!

RIP Donna.

Wow.

Surely she wasn't a smoker with a voice like that.

Those were the roles she identified with rather than as she put it "putting on the wig and makeup and performing on stage". Loved her voice!

I remember DJ'ing a party at a lake for my friend Greg's birthday; this was 1980 so I mostly played what we loved - punk and what was then called "new wave"; but the best thing I did select to play was Donna Summers's "I Feel Love" - the sound of that music across the rippled water, shimmering in the night, was sublime.

The first time I saw Donna Summer was in the movie "Thank God it's Friday". I loved that movie. I couldn't wait to hear more of her music. My favorite song was "Last Dance". ~RIP Donna~ You were such a talented Lady!
