I heard something on another blog site that a young man, who two yrs ago (he was 17 then) had an accident in Breaux Bridge, killing a 35 yr old man. (I don't have the site for the story but if you do a search you can find out about that accident) Anyway, if I understand correctly (this is 2nd hand info) the young man from BB drives a Z71 & it has some damage on it, which I understand it that he was brought in for questioning. Since he has a history of DUI & a minor @ the time of the original accident 2yrs ago, he must have had some kinda deal worked out where he was NOT in jail. Again, this is 2nd/3rd hand news.

I thought the first orignal pics did have time stamps... I remember because I was trying to put them in order but was just to busy in real time to concentrate. This was when they showed us the other truck to. I could be wrong.

Putting this youtube video on this thread too so it doesn't get lost. It's a video of how strong the current is at Whiskey Bay Pilot Channel. I'm not sure if it is like this all the time or there was a specific reason for that particular day. It was mentioned on a previous thread that divers and searchers in boats were having trouble because the current was so bad the other day. Maybe someone on here can give a better insight on it.

which came first chicken or egg? REPOST: important
Ok. These pictures are close in time. I was trying to figure out which came first. In the pic with truck you see a small black body part to the right; that person is going into Circle K. That person is not seen in MS picture. I think MS rode after this truck of interest. Does anyone agree with me that this truck was not following me; could not be following Mickey. If that truck had been following MS, that person would have been seen clearly going back to his car or entering Circle K.
IS that a person? Could it be anything else?
That person was inside of Circle K when MS went by.
That person was going into Circle K when the truck went by. Can a stalker be looking in the rear view mirror? Could he have stopped and MS ran into him by "accident"; and that is when it all happened?
freaks me out to think she was followed by someone looking in rear view mirror in front of her. Once he knew there were no security cameras he could have grabbed her. Can we tell who is in this truck. Ladies and gentleman, I think this man went up st landry too; and something transpired in those fields.
MS was not followed; she was stalked from someone IN FRONT OF HER.

From the beginning, this case caught my attention b/c of my knowledge as a female street cyclist, a love of Lafayette, the fact that Mickey could be my daughter. As a young girl in Lafayette I rode and walked everywhere, and had a head full of platinum blonde curls.
Two days before they found her bike I woke up in a cold sweat. I saw the Whiskey Bay exit. I knew they would find her there.
Last night I woke up at midnight and had a sense of fear. I knew she was dead, I have known all along that they will release important info/or find her by Friday.
Let's see if this is true.- I dont mean to seem nutty, I have known stuff all of my life. Maybe it's part of my heritage, and a saving grace. It's kept me out of a lot of bad situations.
Here's my theory.
On the last camera, she is coasting or slowing down. This means she is either ready to turn, anticipating one, or resting.
Her body language does not say to me that she is ill or exhausted, just that of someone enjoying a ride. I am angry about the no helmet thing, it would have hidden the blaring fact that she was a girl, and possibly saved her life.
As someone who has been hit on a bike, you do not stay on and hang on. If a perp hit her intentionally to grab her, she would have flown in the air or over handlebars. She does not have clips on pedals to hold her in, and in high speed crashes they do not always hold a cyclist in.
The most common cycling injuries at low speed wearing no helmet are head injuries, broken collarbones, and what we call road rash. ( skinned knees etc)
It is safe to presume she had an injury, most likely a head injury. She would have been out if this is so. When I was hit, I was out for an undetermined amount of time. I wore no helmet in that collision.
If that is the case, It would have been easy to scoop her up, and grab her stuff. She would have not put up a fight at all.
I do not think this was an accident. A drunk driver would have plowed over her. The bike has what I consider insignificant damage, easily repaired by a local bike shop.
Even if I am wrong and she was using Brashear to get away, it was a bad choice, and on the wrong bike. ( too dark, too narrow, and a great place to end up hit or a target)
It's way too dark, and a single speed "city bike" is no match for a car. Even with a strong, seasoned cyclist standing in the pedals and riding like hell. I could go on and on about different scenarios that would have saved her, but until you are in that situation you do not know how you will react.
and it's not fair to assume what went through her head in those final moments, if anything at all.
I do hope she is found. I do know this me and Pinkie ( my road bike) will be doing a silent ride of our own down the route we think she took In the next week or so.
If nothing else to serve as a reminder that cyclists are not targets, and that Mickey matters and always will to Lafayette.
Babette (my Cajun girl name )

Then maybe he could have stalked her from his rear view mirror and when they got to abandoned fields on St Landry she had nowhere to go and he jumped out and got her and shoved her in the truck and put her bike in the back; tried to slam that tailgate shut, which might be hard because there was stuff all in the back of the truck anyway. trying to fit a bike in there and it might not fit and he just slammed it hard to make it fit. Can a slamming tailgate shut on a bike that will not fit cause the back wheel to get bent and how much?

Do we have statements from LE saying they think Mickey was hit from behind? I haven't seen that link.
As far as I know, LE stated that the truck seen in the surveillance was coming along the road after Mickey had already passed....I think they even said the word "following."

I posted this on the last one. I saw time stamps on pics the other day. I am sure if we could find them, that would help. I tried to put it in order but had no time. It was when they were trying to find all the vehicles still.

It seems like everyone is assuming the driver of the white truck is responsible for Mickey being missing. Has LE named the driver a POI? If so, I must have missed it.
I'm hoping that because there have been some pics released, that LE has more and may already know what happened. If there's one thing I've learned following crimes for many, many years it's that we never know what LE is really up to. Like in the Lamar and Koenig cases, we can speculate till the cows come home, but when we get some truth, it's a shocker. JMO

No a tailgate will not cause a bike tire to get bent. I accidently shut the garage door on mine the other day, it's fine. My bike is well made, but far less "sturdy" than Mickey's. She has fatter tires, and the bike is generally heavier.
Someone either hit her from behind, or hit the tire with something very heavy to make it look as if she was hit. Forensics will figure all of that out. Bikes usually get pretty scratched up when they hit the pavement.

LABIKE GIRL, how do you know the bike has insignificant damage? Is there a picture of the damaged bike anywhere? If so, can you upload it here? To do so, you would need to take that image and put it on your desktop, go into control panel on WS, add it to albums and upload via advanced settings and put in an attachment. In case anyone did not know, I thought I would share. I could not figure out how to get the 'web address of a picture" that the simple settings (image icon) wanted.
In the last image of MS, I do not see her slowing down or resting or shifting her gaze in anticipation of a turn. If anything, I think she was looking ahead directly and fixed on a truck ahead 'that had just gone ahead of her at the intersection'. It is the first image of her on versailles, that I see possibly her feet on the ground and her looking elsewhere (to the left and possibly at a dark car at the bank on the left - that person in that image could have distracted her a bit); she seems slowed and distracted in the first image to me.
I am also a cyclist and have ridden across America; I am sorry you were hit.

Could that part of the bike have been run over? I once ran over my sons bike and it did some damage to the back wheel but you were able to still ride it, and no my son was not on it. I did run over my daughter bike to and that was completely destroyed , might of been because I somehow decided to drive up and back over it, argh, I am laughing now. You think my back up sensors would alert me more. Now the bikes all get put away.

bbm: I am not labikegirl but I think she was stating her opinion. I am not aware of any pictures of the bike being in the main stream media.

For those of us checking in this morning, was anything found during the breathless events of last night? A quick summary of the current state of affairs would be greatly appreciated by this bleary-eyed late arrival!

A secondary search was being done at Whiskey Bay today when a sonar image, in the area where Mickey Shunick's bike was found, showed something that could have had relevance to Shunick case. A dive team was then called out to search the waters. It turns out that the image seen was actually some sort of wooden item, possibly a log of some sort. No evidence was found relating to the Mickey Shunick Case tonight.
