Last seen on foot in the mission district in San Francisco on June 19 2012 meeting a stranger from a social phone app contact.

This is not like him to disappear. He has no money and his phone has died.

This 22-year-old man went missing recently, or so says his mom. According to his mother, Deborah Berlingeri, who posted an urgent plea asking for her son's whereabouts via Facebook, he was last seen in the Mission on June 19th. She alleges that he met someone via a social media app prior to vanishing, writing:

I have been looking but haven't found any social networking sites for him yet.. except for possibly an old blank myspace.

Looks like he might have lived with his family in Oregon at one point.

I was wondering the same thing.

I can find plenty of family members on various places of the 'net but not him. If he is out there, he's using an alias or nickname perhaps.

Will just hope for the best for now, and keep my eyes open for updates.

Hopefully he's just having a wild week in SF.

ETA: Found a SF blog site that lists that the social media app he might have been using is GRINDR. One of those hook-up apps where you can find people nearby. (I keep thinking STRANGER DANGER.. )

I am Evan Flanary's mom. He is the 22 yr old SF man missing since 6/19 when he was last seen on Harrison St on foot, to meet a stranger he had met on a social phone app. His phone did indeed ring before going to VM on 6/22 for about an hr and a half but no message nor text was returned. Inspector Mackensie form the SFPD tells me she will contact his carrier T-Mobile to attempt to locate the tower where the signal was last located. I am very frustrated since she tells me they will be actively pursuing leads this weekend, but none of my messages have been returned and I only get her voicemail. Please get the word out there. Copy and distribute our flyers or send and share with your local friends thru electronic media. Thank you. I may also be messaged on my Facebook account. Remember, if you see him out there ask him to approach any officer and request the missing person report be withdrawn. My heart goes out to you. I've tweeted his missing poster to all my friends and everyone I know in SF area network. I know the SF Pride was this weekend.. perhaps that's why police are slow at getting back to you this weekend (no excuse but might factor into their response time) Hopefully you will get some positive news very soon. San Francisco police are searching for a 22-year-old man who vanished without a trace nearly a week ago after meeting someone through a social media app.

Evan Flanary, who only recently moved to San Francisco, was last seen on June 19 in the Mission District, said his mother, Deborah Berlingeri.

However, according to one commenter on San Francisco Appeal who claimed that she is Flanary's sister, the missing man was last seen on the 400 block of Harrison Street near the Market District at around 5.30pm last Tuesday.

While it remains unknown which site Flanary was using when he disappeared, there has been an explosion of social networking apps in recent years, from the gay-oriented Grindr to Skout, Banjo and Sonar.

The San Francisco-based Skout, which bills itself as a location-based flirting site, has come under fire recently following reports that three teenagers were sexually assaulted by people they met through the app.

Berlingeri said Flanary had disappeared after meeting up with a stranger through a social networking app. Police would not specify which app he was using.

Flanary grew up in Medford, Ore., where his parents still live, and moved to San Francisco four months ago, Berlingeri said. He had just earned his merchant marine union card and was looking for work, she said.

Flanary has blond hair and blue eyes and is 6 feet 1 inch tall and 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a gray hooded sweatshirt and a UC Berkeley baseball cap

According to his mom's FB he has been located and is safe! He didn't notice the missing posters but upon seeing his image on the news, he called her right away. Nothing has been updated in MSM yet, but it's been confirmed by Deborah on her FB.

PS: I have a 20 year old son, and I just told him to learn from this lesson, never let your cell phone die and not call me for days, I will put your picture everywhere and make sure you're on the news! Especially after years on this forum, too many things can go wrong in a split second.. I am so happy to hear he is safe and sound.
