Simon was last seen at about 7 p.m. Wednesday leaving Bellevue Assisted Living Center. She was driving a 2004 gray four-door Buick LaSabre, with license plate 169EZM.

"She is very alert and she is very able to drive herself. She is very independent," said Sheila Nakeinda, Simon's daughter. "She loves to shop. She loves to visit with her friends and her family."

Do we have any locals near here?

I grew up in OKC but have been in TX for over 20 years now so I don't know how the area has changed. It's on the north side of town and IIRC the Lake Hefner area was pretty nice.
She actually lived in Cashion (I've changed the route on the map) I believe and would have taken either Portland Rd. or County Line Road North to Seward Road. It's a very rural drive and Portland is a wider and better marked road than County Line. However, both are only two lane roads.
If taking Portland it takes you around Lake Heffner then continues on straight North. I hope the lake area has been searched.
I also wonder if she may have stopped in at a Wal Mart or grocery store on the way home. When we lived in rural OK we would always take advantage of the better pricing and selection at OKC grocery stores.

Is the area around the lake fenced? Any possibility she could have had an accident and driven into the lake? Surely they would have looked for signs of that by now...??

I'm local. The description TexesLil gave is accurate. There is no fence around the lake. I don't think she could have driven into the lake, but I guess anything is possible. Her nephew, named in the article, posted a map of the areas that have been serached on his FB page. They have also been distributing flyers to area truckstops.

Pretty lady. Wonder if they are checking surveillance of all the places she shops? I'm worried she stopped some place and she ran into trouble or someone may have followed her home? Cell pings? It's been terribly hot and the temperature is suppose to keep climbing. 104 in NM today. I hope they find her today. Prayers going up^^^^^^.

Simon does not suffer from dementia or any other mental illness, but the heart medication does cause mild confusion at times, Mallett said.

In the missing posters her family has made, she looks to be speaking on a cell phone in the picture of her caught on surveillance leaving the rehabilitation center. I wonder if they've tracked that call to see who she was speaking with and of that person can give any insight?

They’re fearful her kind nature may have gotten her in trouble.
“If anyone needed help, she would’ve helped them. You know, if they needed a ride, if they needed money, she would help them,” said Nakvinda.

Family of missing woman wants change
Simon’s family wanted a missing person alert to flash on the digital signs over our state’s highways.
But a committee decided several years ago that silver alerts would not go on those signs.
“It will be our goal when this is over that we want that rule changed, definitely,” said Nakvinda.

Similar car:
Was she having any financial troubles or had been depressed? Is there ANYTHING that may have caused her to just take off on her own? It's strange they haven't find the car. Locals....can you think of any cliffs or dangerous roadways in the area? Think hard. Gail Palmgren was missing before they found her red Jeep Rubicon 8 months later over a 400' cliff --off a road that should have raised red flags right away and was a residental street. No barriers because the residents didn't want to ruin the view.

It's pretty flat around the OKC metro area, but there are bridges she could have driven off of where the car would be hard to spot. The family said they've considered that and are searching those areas. They said she is very open with her family and they don't believe she was depressed or having problems with anyone. I agree with one of the posters on the missing page who said she may have been disoriented and turned south instead of north. I think they need to start searching south of OKC. It seems she has a really large, caring family and they're doing everything possible to find her. The story has been on our local news channels every night.

Someone asked that question under the picture on the missing page and the family said her last call was to her brother, but that's all they said.

Simon's cellphone battery lost power about 4:30 p.m. June 21 and her car is not equipped with the OnStar subscription tracking system.

So where was the phone pinging for 21 hours after she left the assisted living center?

Seems she has been found...
http://kfor.com/2012/06/30/missing-k...ve-been-found/
: The vehicle was found upside down in a creek. It doesn’t appear that the driver of the vehicle made any sharp turns off the roadway or over-corrected*resulting in the crash. Authorities have confirmed that the vehicle belongs to Simon but have yet to confirm the identity of the body inside. Authorities are working on extracting the vehicle and body from the creek, and plan on being out there for the next several hours.

Missing Kingfisher woman has been found dead, family says (newsok.com)
Quote:

Betty Simon's granddaughter, Aaron Harbin, said Simon's 2004 Buick LeSabre was found upside down in a ravine Saturday morning.
"I still break down and cry, but gosh, it's so good to find her and have closure," said Angie Habben, another one of Simon's granddaughters. "We're all relieved."

I'm so sorry for Betty's family but thankful they have closure. I was making rice crispie treats for my granddaughters and envisioned Betty doing the same.

 R.I.P. Mrs. Simon
So sad that she died in an accident after visiting her husband. I am certain he is so heartbroken as well to loose his sweetheart.

My dearest brother recently passed away from ALS (AKA - Lou Gehrig's disease). It is an terrible disease without a cure, without a known cause, and is only diagnosed by elimination of other diseases. He is my hero!! He accepted the fact that he had to endure this disease, and he stayed positive even though I cried many times since he was diagnosed in early 2011. I know that he rests in peace knowing that he lived a good life here; and he will be blessed up there! May I always honor his memory in being a good person too!! I love you big Bro (also known as the gentle giant). 10/25/2012
