The problem is, no one knows which shelter she was going to Sunday night, so they visited dozens of them.

Apparently the former social worker had been selling her possession on eBay before her disappearance. According to NBC New York, "Police said Kaur's phone was tracked to Brooklyn Sunday night, then shut off. They were in the process of getting a search warrant to go through her emails, law enforcement sources said... Her family said she had become more spiritual after a trip to India last winter, but don't believe she would have disappeared abruptly." And police sources also tell WCBS 2 that it might be possible she joined a cult, which could make the text mean something like "the old Rajwinder is dead to you; the new Rajwinder is with us."

I think this is more likely to be a case of an adult disappearing on her own, for whatever reason. References have been made to a cult, but I believe Rajwinder is probably on her own. She sounds like a very spiritual person, and I hope she is safe and happy.

This reminds me of the woman from a Pakistani (?) family who went missing from her campus just before Christmas and made up the fake drunk guy trying to kiss her story, which she told her sister about in a text right before she "vanished".
She was newly married (arranged) and unhappy and also worried about her grades that term. So rather than be honest, she freaked everyone out and ran off, faking an abduction.
Faking one's own disappearance at the expense of the taxpayers and the feelings of one's own family is total chickensheet.
Makes me wanna smack somebody.
