Says MM was terminated from company, but same man that says this said he was well respected? Sorry, not a corporate world person. Let go, laid off seem gentler words then terminated. Doesn't terminated imply he did something wrong or at odds with the company? Tia
Technically it can mean either. But it's understood to mean, "They fired his ass." As for the "well-respected," etc., etc., saying anything other would be taken to mean, "Yeah, he probably did it," so people generally low-key their public statements at a time like this. Professional behavior. Nothing can be read into it yea or nay. But "terminated"? Leans strongly one way.

The Post Dispatch article is very interesting. I can imagine lots of stress in the household with the employment changes, etc.

I have a lot of confidence that the Major case squad will get to the bottom of this like they did with that vermin Chris Coleman.

I don't see this posted, but Dad has already lawyered up. I can't believe that Dad was in the house the whole time and didn't know what was going on.

If dad did this (and I'm not convinced he did) it was pretty sloppy and the story is ridiculous. That's kind of why I'm leaning toward murder suicide, the story is so unbelievable I kind of think it may be true. I'm also not convinced we are getting the most accurate reports and a lot of the confusion we are experiencing is due to the media paraphrasing and misreporting.

Maybe he was let go, or laid off, due to recent behavior/work ethic changes...but had always been well-respected?

I agree. I am sure he could have come up with a more convincing scenario if he did this crime himself. At the very least place himself outside of the home.

It is just crazy enough that it might have happened this way.

I wonder if either of the parents had been taking OR had just stopped taking any anti-depressants or anti-anxiety meds.

And just because he was just 'let go' that does not mean he was the shooter. Maybe that really set mom off when she found out he was fired. So she took the children away as a punishment. [ Obviously I have no idea what happened.]

A murderer sometimes makes the mistake of being too detailed and offering too much information. Just my opinion of what has happened in this case. His story is just not plausible, IMO, but probably made sense to him at the time he told it. Who can believe a person can be sitting in the house quietly reading and not hear the first shot, much less the following two shots? K.I.S.S.

I'll say again that I think we will see an arrest of the husband at some point.

Post-Dispatch story was updated after midnight:
Quote:
---
Friends, neighbors and a police source, who did not want to be named in print, told Post-Dispatch reporters that Catherine Murch had battled depression for years.
---
Police removed at least three rifles from the home Tuesday, all with evidence tags hanging from them.

Daily Mail adjusts with the investigation (finally):

Shock twist in tragic 'murder-suicide' case at devout Catholic's home: Now police
say wife may NOT have shot son, ten, and daughter, eight, before killing herself

St. Louis Post article http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/c...36ac33b58.html
States Mitchell is a fan of a shooting range and that at least 3 rifles were taken from the home. Ok, really...this dude knows what a gun shot sounds like and he told cops he thought the shot(s) came from outside...Really?

Shooting range fan? Rifles? This makes me wonder if the shots that killed the children were fired from a distance (many yards) by dad. If this occurred, dad could say this is the reason that the deceased mom's clothing doesn't have blood droplets of the children.

That is more hinky stuff.
Mom was a RN battling depression for years. She was educated that when someone in a home has depression, all guns should be removed, but there were 3 rifles in their home. Did dad not want to have his precious rifles temporarily stored elsewhere for the safety of his family? Were rifles more important than the life of his spouse? Did her husband not realize that she was depressed, but her neighbors could?

I suppose it is possible. Sound carries oddly. But, I do doubt it. Wouldn't he have run outside? Or called the cops? Or did he? Wasn't there a report that he made two calls to 911, one, that he heard shots and the second time after he found his wife and kids?

I don't know. It is possible. Of course I have my doubts but it is possible.

Does anyone else find it odd the Archdiocese is playing such a prominent role in this family's tragedy? Earlier, they had issued a press statement about the murder-suicide. I've never seen a case where the church played such a prominent role in handling publicity and media relations for a family tragedy.

I bet I am not the only one here who would not be surprised to hear news of a girlfriend soon.

I hate to admit it, but I'm thinking the same thing. Is there a mistress lurking in the background. I know right now the husband is a victim, so I'm gonna leave it at that.

I bet something will turn up. If its not a woman it could be a man, a secret addiction, or a financial crime. Whatever it is, I hope no one thinks less of the poor wife because she suffered from depression. My doctor told me that most of the women he treats for depression are married to men who refuse to accept help for their own mental health issues. If the men would get help, their wives wouldn't need meds.

I worked for a psychiatrist who told me once, "sadly, the people I need to see most will never darken the door of my office."

Today around 7 a.m. CDT, StL Post Dispatch:
Quote:
It could be days, or weeks, until more is known, a spokesperson said. Authorities were waiting for results from autopsies and examination of other forensic evidence.

Local here and immediately this story had my hinky meter going crazy. Dad is in the house and yet mom is able to shoot one kid upstairs, one kid downstairs and herself before he intervened? No way hose. The house is not that big and you can tell the difference between shots fired in your home or outside. I am not buying this mans story for a second. MOO

It's very tragic either way things turn out. Those poor kids having their life ended by someone they loved/trusted. Prayers for their family and friends.
