Bomb dogs get possible explosives hits on 3 vehicles at San Antonio Int'l Airport
Breaking story: Chief McManus (via livestream): Airport evacuated, one terminal cleared, other being checked now. "Very credible, specific" threats phoned in resulted in parking and sub-parking garages being checked; non-specific threats for terminals. Possible hits on three vehicles in short term/below ground parking garage. Terminal B cleared; A still evacuated, being checked. Incoming flights landing; no planes being allowed to take off, nor is anyone being allowed to leave the airport.

A bomb threat at San Antonio International Airport has prompted the evacuation of both terminals.
Around 2:15 p.m., firefighters were called to the airport after three bombs were reported in the airport's parking garage, San Antonio Fire Department spokeswoman Deborah Foster said.
More than a dozen SAFD units, including a bomb squad and a hazardous materials team, are at the scene.
About 1,000 people have been evacuated from the terminals, airport spokeswoman Nora Castro said.

No explosions or anything - SAPD, Homeland Security, airport LE still on scene, and Red Cross setting up a shelter for 2,000 at nearby McArthur H.S. for those who aren't being allowed to fly out. So it sounds like they are being evacuated in case this threat proves not only credible, but deadly. Or at least until matters are totally in hand.

Both terminals swept & cleared; two of the vehicles bomb dogs hit on have been checked and cleared.
Hope this is nothing. Hope, also, that someone didn't run this threat in order to observe procedures and, armed with that knowledge, strike later.
Suspicious vehicles were less than 300' from Terminal A, in short term parking.

Both terminals cleared. A-OK though reports are conflicting at this time. No busing folks to McArthur, Red Cross shelter cancelled, evidently.
Jeesh, had me jumpy. Used to live about a mile and a quarter from this airport.
No "all-clear" given yet, according to SAFD. Nothing yet on third vehicle in short-term parking. SAPD wasn't too concerned about it, according to KSAT's Simon Gutierrez.
No flights out yet. People allowed back into lobbies of terminals, but no one passing through security right now.
First AP story.

Andy Fagan, KSAT, in terminal: security lines open now in Terminal B.
All fire trucks now leaving or already gone.
103 in S.A. right now. Bet it was hot on the roadway and tarmac, where some of the evacutated had to stand. Some planes on tarmac for up to two hours. One San Antonian on plane tweeted stewards and stewardesses were passing out water to passengers; she, however, would have liked a vodka.
Planes still not being allowed to leave. Hmm.

Three cars swept, all indications point to all of them being cleared.
Still checking long-term lot; it's six or seven stories high.
Appears no explosives found.
People stuck on planes got most of their info about what was up via social media.
Airport still officially closed.

A bomb threat at San Antonio International Airport wreaked havoc for travelers Wednesday afternoon, prompting the evacuation of both terminals and the cancellation of all air operations for at least three hours until emergency personnel determined the call had been a hoax.
Emergency personnel mobilized swiftly after the 2:15 p.m. phone call to the airport in which a man “who had an accent” said he left luggage at the airport and that “the airport was going to blow up,” officials said.

Not sure about that "had an accent" thing. Since San Antonio is 63.2% Latino, that certainly wouldn't have been described as "an accent." White guy from Chicago maybe? lol

A San Antonio police spokeswoman said the call was made from a North Side payphone around 10:15 a.m. The caller said, “Yesterday was just a test at the airport; watch what happens today,”
---
“It wasn't anything near as specific as yesterday's call was, and it wasn't really directed at the airport,” said airport spokesman Rich Johnson.

Someone was evidently thinking along that line too, at least. No sign of bomb today though, since threat was not at a specific target, and they can't very well check every location in San Antonio.

Ugh, I live less than a mile (as the crow flies) from the airport and my office is one exit down 410. People are damn nuts.
