CHICAGO (CBS 2) Friends and family are desperate to find 13-year-old Alberto Torres.

He’s been missing since early Tuesday. The boy was reported missing after he didn’t show up for school Tuesday.

Every morning, Alberto Torres would help his classmates at Philo Carpenter School cross the intersection of Elizabeth and Huron on the city’s West Side.

This morning, before school, Alberto's mother brought his younger brother to the corner to see if there was any sign of the missing eighth grader.

They waited and waited. He never came.

“We’re devastated,” she said. “We don’t’ know what to do.”

Missing boy calls friend after 3-day search

Sgt. Robert Cargie said police talked to the friend, who said she received a call Thursday from missing Alberto Torres, and to Alberto's mother. Alberto told his contact he is staying with friends, Cargie said.

Boy apparently OK, but not home yet

Relatives of a missing 13-year-old Chicago boy got word late Thursday from one of the teen's friends that he's OK and staying with friends.
