DE - Glenn Ross Daughters, 76, Dagsboro, May 2005

Glenn Ross Daughters, 76, was reported missing from his home in Dagsboro, Delaware on Sunday. Dagsboro is about 600 miles from Cincinnati. Daughters drove along Route 50, and turned up at the BP gas station on West State Road in Cleves just after 11:00 a.m. Tuesday.

"He left his house to get his hair washed and ended up down here," said Todd.

Why is it that when a custodial parent fails to provide for a child it is called neglect and is a criminal matter. But when a non custodial parent fails to provide it is called failure to support and is a civil matter?

Why was an alzheimers patient driving himself to get his hair washed????

I'm so glad he is safe, but his family needs to take those keys away and step in and help him, because next time he may get hurt, or hurt somebody. I am sure he has been frightened, not knowing how to get back home.

I was the main caregiver for a father with Alzheimers for about 8 years. I can assure you that my fathers car keys were "lost" way before he ever got to that point. My mother and I were more afraid of what he could do to others, than to himself. The family of this gentleman should be ashamed of themselves for not taking better care of him. No one should ever feel that they can't take away the car keys of someone who should not be driving any longer. The risks are too great.

We took away my mother in law's car keys and she called the police. Our attorney said that until she was declared "incompotent" (something a judge is very reluctant to do) we better give her the keys back or we could be charged with interferring with her property. It got very nasty with the family and children's services being called in ..... I never judge the family. Some alzheimers patients can appear very lucid at time and it always seems that those moments happen when you are with them trying to conduct some type of business. We would say something about her not being able to handle her business (the utility people) and the people she would be talking to would take her side and act like we were trying to take advantage. It was soooo maddening. So don't judge the families of these people.
