Malaysia Airlines says it has lost contact with a plane travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, with 239 people on board.

The airline said in a statement that flight MH370 disappeared at 02:40 local time on Saturday (18:40 GMT on Friday).

We deeply regret that we have lost all contacts with flight MH370 which departed Kuala Lumpur at 12.41 am earlier this morning bound for Beijing. The aircraft was scheduled to land at Beijing International Airport at 6.30am local Beijing time. Subang Air Traffic Control reported that it lost contact at 2.40am (local Malaysia time) today.

Flight MH370 was operated on a Boeing B777-200 aircraft. The flight was carrying a total number of 239 passengers and crew – comprising 227 passengers (including 2 infants), 12 crew members. The passengers were of 13 different nationalities. Malaysia Airlines is currently working with the authorities who have activated their Search and Rescue team to locate the aircraft. Our team is currently calling the next-of-kin of passengers and crew.

Focus of the airline is to work with the emergency responders and authorities and mobilize its full support. Our thoughts and prayers are with all affected passengers and crew and their family members. The airline will provide regular updates on the situation.

I hope they find the plane soon so they can rescue any survivors. It's terrible when these incidents happen there were children on the flight. Praying for the passengers and their families.

Anderson Cooper's show said they are notifying all the families of the passengers. It doesn't look good.

NBC just did a national news special report break during Dateline… doesn't sound good, at all.

Here is the flight tracking information for the flight. It looks like it wasn't in the air very long before things were not being updated anymore. Boggling how a flight could just go "missing" with all the technology there is now. Prayers!

It is now 10am in Beijing... so the plane is 3.5 hours late.
Geography is NOT my strong point... however I looked at a map.

2 hours into the flight they SHOULD have not been over the water anymore.

9:30am - (UNOFFICIAL) Flight MH370 has resurfaced and landed safely in Nanming, China. Early reports say that the aircraft had experienced a cockpit electronics malfunction.

As of this moment, the flight crew and all 239 passengers onboard are believed to be unharmed as some of the crew has already informed their families of their safety.

I saw that, too, Leilei. Now I am really confused. Not finding anything that corroborates a find, so I am left holding my breath and praying for a miracle still.
