Small plane crashed off Florida coast; 2 missing. NOT the same as the other crash

A plane crash off the northern Florida coast Sunday left one teenage girl [dead], and a father and his daughter missing Monday morning, authorities said.

By 6 a.m. Monday, nearly 24 hours had elapsed since Gary Tillman’s Cessna went down about a mile off the coast of Vilano Beach, according to local authorities. Forty-three-year-old Tillman, of Rome, Ga., radioed in a distress call about mechanical problems shortly before the plane carrying three others crashed.

It's amazing that one girl survived, but sad that another was found and later died. I hope they find the other two soon. Prayers for them.

Another story:

ST. AUGUSTINE -- Coast Guard officials were searching for two passengers who were missing after a small plane crashed off the Florida coast, killing a teenage girl.

The Cessna 195 was about a mile away from St. Augustine in northeast Florida when it crashed into the sea at around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Coast Guard Petty Officer Donnie Brzuska said. The cause of the crash was under investigation.

Missing were pilot Gary Tillman, 43, and his daughter, Hanna Tillman, 16, both of Rome, Ga., said sheriff's Sgt. Charles Mulligan.

Anna Kipp, 16, of Rome, Ga., was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, Mulligan said. Rachel Hestetler, 16, was found in the water and is listed in good condition, authorities said.

Search Continues for Missing Father & Daughter

VILANO BEACH, FL -- The Coast Guard is continuing its search by air and by water Monday for a Georgia businessman and his teenage daughter.
Gary Tillman, 43, and his 16-year-old daughter Hannah remain missing following Sunday's plane crash about a mile off Vilano Beach.

Crews rescued Anna Kipp, 16, and Rachel Hostetler, 16, Sunday afternoon, shortly after the crash. Kipp died at Flagler Hospital.
Hostetler is on her way back to Rome, Georgia, after being discharged from Wolfson Children's Hospital Monday morning.

"Our prayers go out to the two families. Rachel is doing very well under the circumstances," said Rachel's father, John Hostetler, in a written statement

Teen survives plane crash, 10-foot seas

The 16-year-old Georgia girl tried to swim to shore after her small plane went down in the Atlantic Ocean on Sunday.

During Georgia inter-scholastic swim meets, Rachel Hostetler swam the 100-meter breast stroke for Rome High School.
On Sunday, she swam for her life through stormy seas.
Hostetler, 16, and two of her friends were headed for a Bahamas vacation, along with the father of one of the girls, when their five-seater Cessna aircraft plunged into the Atlantic about a mile off St. Augustine.

Hostetler told rescuers she didn't know what happened to the others but that she was trying to swim to shore when she was rescued about an hour and fifteen minutes after the crash in gale force winds. Waves ran as high as 10 feet and the water temperature was 62 degrees.

...The plane's pilot was Gary Tillman, 43, who owned an insurance agency in Rome. He and his daughter, Hannah, 16, were still missing Tuesday, 48 hours after the crash. U.S. Coast Guard "survivability" models show they could last no more than 34 hours, said spokesman Donnie Brzuska.

The fourth passenger, Anna Kipp, 16, was pronounced dead from asphyxia Sunday afternoon at Flagler Hospital, Brzuska said. She was wearing a life jacket but had no pulse when Coast Guardsmen pulled her from the water about an hour and 45 minutes after the plane went down.
