CA - UID San Francisco Bay, in suitcase, Jan 2006

A suitcase containing human body parts was found floating in the San Francisco Bay on Friday afternoon, police said.

Gittens confirmed that the remains were human, but would not say exactly what body parts were found or in what condition. The medical examiner's office will conduct DNA tests to identify the remains, he said.

Authorities had no leads or suspects in the case as of late Friday.

SAN FRANCISCO -- A suitcase containing human body parts was found floating in the San Francisco Bay on Friday afternoon, police said.

Several people who were sailing a rented boat on the bay called the U.S. Coast Guard around 1:10 p.m., shortly after finding the suitcase just east of the Golden Gate Bridge, opening it and seeing the contents inside.

The case [talking about Pearla Louis, found 2010] bears a striking resemblance to another homicide four years ago. On Jan. 13, 2006, a sailor found a suitcase that was floating in the water near the Golden Gate Bridge, in the area of Horseshoe Cove.

The medical examiner was unable to identify the human remains found inside, and the Police Department sent a sample to the DNA lab.

Only recently, that body was identified as Donna Rossi, 46, of Oakland.
