The granddaughter of state Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno has been reported missing to state police, the Republican leader's office said on Sunday.

Bruno spokesman Kris Thompson said the family had not heard from 20-year-old Rachel Bruno since Wednesday evening. He did not give further details.

"We are concerned that Rachel has not contacted family members since Wednesday evening," Thompson said. "We're asking if anyone has any information to please call New York State Police."

He described the young woman as 5-foot-10, 110 pounds, with blond hair and brown eyes. Thompson said Rachel Bruno lives in the town of Brunswick, near Troy, with her mother. He said she may have spoken with friends on Thursday morning, but he had no information on where she was when she spoke with friends or family members.

Needless to say, law enforcement agencies are all over this.

Any thoughts on what might have happened to her?

This sounds very strange to me. How do they KNOW she is not the victim
of foul play? If she is "fine", why is she considered missing???

I hope that she is found safe and sound. I wonder why they don't post a picture of her. As always it is hard to recognize a person that is missing if pictures aren't being provided.

Hate to say this but I'm going to anyway. This grandfather has power in politics and just maybe his granddaughter missing will help get some of the bills that we need passed....passed. Maybe as someone with power is going through what usually is something that just regular people with no pull go through it will now make a difference in the way these polticians do things. I hope so anyway. I hope that she is found alive and this family doesn't have to suffer the way other families have. Either way I hope that grandpa will see things in a different light from now on.

Joe Bruno's Missing Granddaughter Calls Home

ALBANY (1010 WINS) -- The missing granddaughter of state Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno called her mother Monday afternoon and, in a brief conversation, said she was fine and would be in touch again soon, a state police spokeswoman said.

Rachel Bruno, the 20-year-old granddaughter of the state Legislature's most powerful Republican, had not been heard from since Thursday when she had telephone conversations with her boyfriend and another friend, said John McArdle, a spokesman for the Senate majority leader. She was last seen by family members Wednesday and did not go to work Friday.

``She told her mother she was fine,'' Trooper Maureen Tuffey said of the phone call.

Tuffey said Rachel Bruno did not tell her mother where she was or why she had left.

``She said she would contact her again soon,'' Tuffey said.

Asked if Rachel Bruno was safe, Tuffey told The Associated Press: ``We believe she is, but we don't know that for sure.''

I agree. There's something more going on here. My immediate thought was that she was being held and forced to make the call to take the heat off of the case.

New York state Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno said Wednesday his 20-year-old granddaughter Rachel is back safely with family members and will undergo treatment for her problems.

"Rachel's physical and emotional problems placed her in a dangerous and threatening situation, the outcome of which could have been much worse," Bruno said in a statement. "This was compounded by her susceptibility to other harmful substances and dangerous influences, particularly those online and people who use the Internet to prey on the vulnerable."

She was located in New York City. Bruno said Wednesday state police "saved my granddaughter from a threatening situation," and he also thanked New York City police for their help with the investigation.
"Rachel is now receiving treatment and hopefully will overcome her problems," Bruno said.
Bruno said Rachel Bruno has been diagnosed with anorexia and has struggled with the condition for several years.

I'm so glad that she is back home and that the family are not in denial about her problems.

Sounds like she might have met up with someone on the internet. Thank God she didn't end up dead.

Please Senator Burno never forget the fear and helplessness that you felt when your precious granddaughter was missing. Remember those hours/feelings when laws concerning protecting our children are trying to get passed. Use your influence in getting these laws passed so that every child can be safe. Never forget how different the outcome for your granddaughter could have been and how fortunate your family is. I am going to keep my eye on you and see how you vote on these laws for the protection of our children.

I'm so glad she's home and can continue to receive treatment. She's a beautiful young woman with some very serious problems, and will need her family's increased protection.

I kind of got that idea from what grandpa said in the news. I also think that some type of drug has played a part in what went on. Well thank God that her family has the money to get her any type of help that is needed and I really hope that she is open to the help. She is probably a very nice girl but just has some problems that she really needs help with.

After reading the articles boy she does need some help. You can tell that she is anorexic...her poor little arms are just twigs. Sounds like she is more like about 14-16 emotionally/mentally.
