Tropical Storm Barry forms in Gulf
Tropical Storm Barry formed in the Gulf of Mexico on Friday — the first day of hurricane season — and the National Hurricane Center issued a tropical storm warning for a stretch of Florida's western coast.
The storm was about 320 miles southwest of Tampa about 5 p.m. and was moving north at around 12 mph with maximum sustained winds of about 45 mph.
Forecasters expected Barry to turn east and increase in speed over the next day, though no significant change in strength was anticipated before possible landfall.
"We're not looking for a hurricane," said Dave Roberts, a hurricane specialist at the Hurricane Center.

Well, Barry is a Godsend for us here in Florida--Many of us were praying and doing Indian rain dances for a tropical storm but we never dreamed we'd be this lucky for a storm to form so early in the season--Sweet Relief for our golf courses, lawns, flowers, and the big lake where we get our water from--Also the 180 fires thru out the state are being extinguished--We had ten straight hours of beautiful rain--Hopefully,we'll get another tropical storm soon, since Lake Okeechobee(which serves 5 million of us)is at its lowest point in recorded history

I have to admit I'm loving Berry :-) we have already had 3 inchs of rain or alittle more. The weather bug said that Berry will come to shore in Hudson and if that is true that will be less 5 miles from us. I do not believe there will be any damage from Tropical storm Berry just the needed rain and alittle high wind gust.

Me and my husband were talking about Barry yesterday. I'm glad he's going where it's needed. Jim Cantore and the weather channel are here on the gulf coast for hurricane week, and we couldn't help but joke about the "Cantore Curse".

So happy Florida is getting rain!!
Just a few days a go a friend was telling me about how smoky it was there and how far away she was from the fires. She sounded worried and I hope this helps get rid of all the fires.

West Coast Florida here: Barry? Where the H did he come from? I've been watching the weather all week, praying for rain (I think I prayed too hard). Yesterday they were calling for 60% chance of rain, possibly up to one inch.
Last night our electricity went out about 5 p.m. - just now came on (9:30 Saturday morning) - what a night, and then I sign on to see we just had a vist by tropical storm Barry - when they heck did it change from 60% with 1 " to a tropical strom???
I was up at 3 a.m. stumbling around the house trying to find a lighter, trying to find a candle, trying to find my glasses, trying to find the cell phone so I could see what time it was, all the while walking through a pile of dog crap, tracking it all over the house IN THE DARK!!!!! Which I finally figured out when it got light out this morning.
My flowers are happy, but grass is happy, but Poco isn't too happy this morning.
IT'S BEEN ONE H* OF A WEEK! I guess it's anoher Xanax day for Poco, JDB, lol!

THANK YOU for starting this thread DK
(you always look out for us)
We just started getting this wonderful soft rain in the wee hours of the morning here in northern Fla. I was so excited I was up all night just listening to it! My horses are not talking shelter under the trees like they usually do, heck even my two dogs are laying right out in the middle of the yard! Everything seems to be just soaking it up...me included! I am sitting here in my pj's with my coffee and a candle lit just to celebrate. I have the window open just so I can hear the beautiful sound of dripping water...ahhh heaven.
Since we have this blessing of a rainy windswept day I am going to go out for a walk. Im feeling the need to revel in it. Afterwards, I think a nice hot shower (more water) then make a big pot of chili, followed by a nap. I love napping while it rains!
poco~ sorry about the doggie poo. Look at it this way, NOTHING worse can happen to you the rest of this day! Now come over and have some chili

CHILI??????????? I love chili, but the going-ons in my life this past week, with my 15-year-old niece, plus the lights out, plus the tracking through the poop, I failed to mention that my 9# Yorkie poo is terrified of storms and when I opened the front door at 5 a.m. this morning to let my cat in, my dog tears out the front door and starts running down the street at high speed. So, here I am at 4 a.m. this morning, running down the street, in the rain (with dog poop on the bottom of my shoes which I didn't yet know about), in my pajamas trying to catch her in the pouring down rain as she was heading for a busy intersection (yes at 4 a.m., in my pajamas). I was running after her yelling STOP, STAY, BALL (she loves balls), SQUIRRELS (she loves squirrels), but she wouldn't stop. I'm thinking she is going to make it to the busy street when all of a sudden she STOPS to smell something. THANK GOD!! Anyway, I got her and got her home, both of us soaking wet.
So, back to the chili invite - thanks, I'd love too, but I HAVE MAJOR DIARRHEA RIGHT NOW, lol.

It rained here inNaples all day yesterday. We needed it so badly. Went to dinnder last night and the restaurant was full of fire fighters who had been working in the everglades. Has been raining on an off all morning too. Went out to try and rollerblade and about got blown over by the winds. I love it!!!!!!

I was so glad it rained; I too stayed up late to listen to it. We finally coaxed our dog that hates rain outside before bedtime. He peed for about 7 minutes.
Are the fires at Okeechobee out? The smoke's been reaching all the way up to us in Sarasota County.

Glad you Floridians received some badly needed rain. It's tough to make up a large deficit quickly.

Thanks Buzz!
We needed more rain but are grateful for anything. Barry is crossing the mainland and headed out to the Atlantic. If it wants to circle back and cross over again we wouldnt mind. Thats happened before.

I think I have heard of Autohaus..... but can't place it. St. Petersburg is a nice town - have only been in florida for 4 1/2 years now, but may be ready to move on in a few more if these hurricaines don't leave us alone!

I wish we'd gotten some of it here in the panhandle... *sigh*
Oh well, maybe soon we'll get more than 1/10 of an inch.
