NC - Jannie Lee, 96, & grandson Victor Powell, 43, Greensboro, 7 Aug 2007

Police Seek Missing Grandmother, Grandson

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- City police are asking for the public's help with what they called an unusual missing person's case.

Jannie Lee, 96, and her grandson, Victor Powell, 43, were last seen Aug. 7 when they reportedly left Greensboro en route to Massachusetts.

Detective Paul McDonald said police in Burlington, Mass., can't find the missing woman and her grandson at the address the family provided.

Lee is a retired cafeteria supervisor for North Carolina A&T State University who has lived in Greensboro for the last 50 years. She's known as "Mother Lee" to family and friends.

Powell is a freelance technician.

His family said he's been helping care for his grandmother since last March when she moved to Massachusetts to live with him.

The two spent the last month in Greensboro before disappearing.

Family members said they are praying that the two are found safely.

It would be great if everyone would email this info to get the word out. They could be anywhere!

Any thoughts on this one? I'm not sure the family knows how to get the word out since this is the first I have heard of it.

Something is odd.

When I watched the video, Mother Lee's daughter (who looks young enough to be her granddaughter, bless her heart) was asking for her momma to call her if she could get to a phone, "Call me and I will come get you."

Isn't it strange that she isn't also asking for Tyrone to call her? He must be her son or nephew, but she seems a little unconcerned about him.

That makes me wonder if they've had trouble with him, although I don't think so, or they wouldn't have allowed Mother Lee to move from North Carolina to Massachusetts in the first place.

Second oddity: LE says they aren't at the address the family provided. Mother Lee lives with Tyrone in Mass. so it seems as though LE would say that they weren't found at Tyrone's home.....but they just say "the address."

My gut feeling is that the strongest possibilites are #1, these two had an accident enroute back home; they are either off road or in water, or #2, they took a wrong turn and became mired down in an overgrown area.

I agree here...they should be out searching the route taken...in the first post it states

CUE for the Missing is in NC...they should contact Monica Caison there, here is the website:

Wonder what the family history is?

I was exactly picturing that in my mind when I was posting, and also the older couple that someone had called it in but noone saw evidence of car going off the road. I pray they are found safe.

A 96-year-old woman who was missing since early August was found Monday at the home of a relative in Southboro, Mass., according to Greensboro police.

Jannie Dye Lee left Greensboro Aug. 7 with her grandson Victor Tyrone Powell, 43, according to police reports.

"They’re OK, they’re safe and they’re with family," said Lee’s daughter, Elizabeth Norman, who lives in Greensboro.

I would be so happy but furious at the same time! I'm glad they are safe but they could have called family members when they changed their plans.

I daresay the 96 yr old probably doesn't know what's going on, and if he truly has a "troubled mind" he's the last person that poor woman should be with!!!!

That's true, Taximom. Maybe the family should have her stay with a different family member so she won't be "lost" again.
