The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is asking for help in locating 29 year old, Cayle Bywater.

Bywater was reported missing on New Year’s Eve when a neighbor found her dog running loose near her S. Milledge Ave. home.

She was last seen on Saturday and spoke with a family member that same day.

Police found her backdoor open. Her purse, wallet, keys, cell phone and car are all still at her residence.

Cayle Bywater is described as a white female, 5’3” tall, 113 pounds, with curly brown hair and blue eyes.

SNIP:A neighbor last saw Cayle Bywater on Saturday outside her home at 2004 S. Milledge Ave., Athens-Clarke police said.

A friend and co-worker reported Bywater missing on Monday, after the friend found Bywater's purse, cell phone and other belongings on her car, parked outside her house, where the basement door was open and Bywater's dog was running loose outside, according to police.

"I'm very concerned, and I just don't know what to say except we are really worried about her," said Katie Sims, the friend who works with Bywater at Aromas wine bar in Five Points.

Sims said detectives do not think foul play was involved.

Bywater suffers from bipolar disorder, according to police, and it is possible the 29-year-old woman wandered off.

A friend told officers that Bywater recently had been "acting differently and not like herself," according to police.

Police used a tracking dog to search for Bywater in woods behind her home, but it was unable to pick up a scent. SNIP.

Seems odd to me that police would immediately say that they do not believe foul play was involved. Wonder if they think she just took off on her own.

Like the neighbor, I would be very concerned that she left without all of her belongings, the door is open and the dog is outside.

There must be more to this story that being released to the public. Maybe they know where she is already.

I don't know if it helps any, but the hiker is from Gwinnett County even though she went missing from Union County.

Does anyone know what the weather is like in the area where Cayle is missing just in case she is wandering out in the open air? I can't seem to find any updated news on her.

A new photograph may help shed some light on a woman missing for more than a week now in Athens. Cayle Bywater was last seen December 29 in an Athens park.

Now, investigators are hoping this will help: one visitor of the park that day snapped a photograph of a young boy on a swing. In the background, Cayle is visible with her dog. Cayle is wearing jeans, a red, white and blue jacket, and glasses.

"If someone's seen her at another time, anywhere we can place her whether at the park or her house or anywhere will be critical," said Maj. Mark Sizemore of the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

Several people have reported seeing Cayle in the park that day, and have told police that she seemed disoriented and confused. Her family says she is bipolar and on medication, but insists it is not like her to wander off, and not like her dog Ollie to leave her side. He was found without his leash at Cayle's home.

"I fear someone's got her," said Cayle's sister, Tiffiny Cohen. "I fear someone saw her in the park confused, saw someone not right by herself."

Oh man... I feel like, here we go again! The picture is weird I can't see her? What am I missing? I can see the red and blue jacket in the background but I can't make out a face.

I can't see her face either...only her body and what she is wearing and that really isn't a good pic that someone might recognize her from.

I'm confused. She was seen at the park yet her co-worker found her purse..cell phone...etc...on her car. Her dog was loose and the basement or garage door was open. She must have come home after being at the park or was the park close enough for her to walk? If the park was close by she may have been planning to drive and sat her belongings on the hood of the car for some reason and then decided to walk and forgot that her things were on the car.

Really strange that the dog was at home wandering around without its master. Was the leash in the house? If she wasn't taking her meds it is hard to tell what her mental state is. By the sounds of it she wasn't taking her meds and it was having an affect. I hope that nothing has happened to her and she has just wandered off somewhere and is found soon.

I am starting to think the same thing. Seems LE is starting to look at several unexplained disappearences in the GA, FL areas (and some surrounding states) to see if they could possibly be connected to Hilton (man areested for Meredith Emerson's disappearence and murder).

Does anyone know if LE still thinks no foul play is involved here?

Because LE wrote her off as a nutcase that took off. I was so upset when I read yesterday that LE told the family that there is absolutely no connection to Gary Hilton. The family is understandibly thrilled by that news. But in this case I think LE is misleading. Because LE doesn't see a connection so far, doesn't mean there isn't one. LE can't know that with 100% certainty. What LE told the family this? GBI or the same ones who from day one treated Bywater like a runaway? Whoever is responsible, foul play is involved and it has nothing to do with Bywater's mental illness.

It's very unfair that people with mental illness are not afforded the same effort from LE than the rest of the population when they go missing. Having a mental illness doesn't make you less likely to be a victim of a crime. It's backward thinking on their part.

Ok, thanks for letting me rant!

Synopsis of the video:
A woman jogging in a park near where Cayle was last seen and photographed in a playground, found glasses which are described as similar to Cayle's.
They are described as smallish prescription glasses with the Prada label.

Cayle's stepfather does not know if these are her glasses. The family went to the park and viewed the glasses, which police are comparing to photos of Cayle's glasses.
( I had to wonder why they don't just call her optician and find out what she bought.)

There was also a video cut to a group of condos and it was said that Cayle was seen " lurking around the condos" recently. I thought it was an unfortunate choice of words. She is possibly a crime victim, not a perpetrator.

We have added Cayle to the possible victims of Gary Michael Hilton. Until people are ruled out, we should consider all the possibilities in having been around or associated with him. The fact she had a dog is very interesting as we know this is how he approaches people. There are other things, too.

Quick question, and it's nothing important - just for my own edification. Is Cayle's name prounounced "kale" or is it prounounced like "Cay-la"? I can't view the videos on this computer, so I've just been guessing that it's like "kale". TIA!

I was pronouncing it "Kale" in my mind...I didn't even think of it being pronounced "Kaylee"....

I hope they find her soon.

Eye Glasses found HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED to be those of Cayle. They were found under bushes near the restrooms at the Memorial Park Dog Park...

This is an intelligent young woman that basically went unnoticed up till now, because of the label of "Bi-polar" individual. She is also a student at the University, as were some other missing persons. I am glad to hear that GBI is on this now. Hopefully, we can get some answers soon.
