DNA leads police to snack thief in St. Albans

Published: Wednesday, January 30, 2008
ST. ALBANS -- A DNA sample taken at the scene of a snack truck theft last year in St. Albans has led to the arrest of a Swanton man, said Vermont State Police.

Police were called out on April 29, 2007 to the Champlain Commons, where a man reported that his delivery/snack truck had been broken into, and that more than $215 in items had been stolen. While investigating the scene, police collected blood evidence taken near a window that had been broken during the theft.

A DNA test of the blood matched that of Jeremy A. Daley, 29, of Swanton, said police. A swab of skin tissue taken from Daley's mouth in December recently confirmed the match.

Daley was charged for suspicion of larceny and unlawful mischief. He was taken to the state police Field Supervision Unit for having violated his probation, said police.

Daley is due in Vermont District Court in St. Albans on March 31 to answer the charges.
