Body found in wooded area of Gainesville

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville Police are investigating human skeletal remains that were discovered Thursday morning around 9:20am by city workers in a wooded area near the intersection of Pine Street at Summit Street.

The remains will be sent to the State Crime Lab to determine how long they have been there and possible cause of death according to investigators.

Sgt. Johnny Ray said, "There were some types of identification with the body," but until police get a positive ID they are not going to release any further information.

The body was taken to the state crime lab for positive identification.

Ray said it was so decomposed not even the gender could be readily determined.

Gainesville - Gainesville Police now know the identity of the skeletal remains found last week.

The body was found by utility workers in a wooded area near the intersection of Pine Street at Summit Street.

Gainesville Police Lieutenant Brian Kelly says the body, "has been classified to be a male subject." He added, "there does not appear to be any signs of forced injury or trauma, indicating foul play."
