LOL I sure wish I lived in Breck right now. I would be hanging out at a certain bar and getting very chummy with people. I could find out the real story. I think it does go back to the locals and the staff. It just HAS to! It is strange that no one saw him going back down main.

sorry, SS, I can't find the link to that article on the autopsy that I quoted from yesterday....it was in one of the local newspapers from the area, but I looked again this morning and I can't find it.

You could try the history files on your computer.

It is OK! The thread has already been locked and the link was posted earlier. It should suffice. No worries, Murdershewrote!!

Ominous thread

I cant post the link from this blog, but I ran across it today and thought I would post as it struck me, as, well, like an "insider" . I'm open to any thoughts:

Post from Denver Post:

Umm, I said a couple of months ago his body would be found in the spring, after the snow melt. And by the way, as an equities trader, I can tell you that a trader is not the same as a "broker". Get it right, Denver Post. He had had an extraordinary number of drinks, and was walking in white-out conditions without proper clothing. Unfortunately, there was only one possible outcome. It was also reported that he was hitting on someone else's girl in the bar. Never a wise decision.

Hmmmm...that is interesting.

Here are my intitial thoughts on that post:

The person seems to be quite angry at Mike by making the distinction between the two terms...insuring that Mike isn't regarded as higher up than he was in the business world. He also infers that Mike is less than intelligent in many respects.

It certainly does sound like this person knows more than he should about Mike's case. The comment about hitting on some guy's girlfriend is very telling, imo. Does he sound like he could be the guy?

Can we go back to find his other post or posts? I would like to know what this "prophet" said initially.

He never posted anywhere on the other stories about Mike that I could find. Hmmm...so I wonder who he made his "psychic" prediction to?

Take a good look at how high the snow was on the sides of the roads where the plows had been in this photo: http://www.denverpost.com/ci_8239297

Wouldn't that propose a huge obstacle in Mike's projected path off the Highway?

Not defending the 'psychic' or meaning any disrespect to Mike but generally locals do sort of look down on and poke fun at tourists who don't respect the weather and terrain. You should hear the comments when a tourist gets lost or causes an avalanche back country skiing/boarding.

I had a thought for the question list! The employees at the bar - has there been any turnover since that night? One thing I know I didn't realize at first but a lot of people come into those resort towns for the season to work and ski - sort of like the people who go to the shore for the summer and workt he boardwalk stores.

Lew's right, check the early blogs on another "station"- wow.
Gives new meaning to "don't look like a tourist."

On a personal note - since I first read about this I have pulled out every pick I have from my weekends in Breck. And as much as I hope this was just a terrible tragedy - I just don't see any logical explanation for his location.

I would also love to tell you Breck was wonderful and we never had any problems when we went there but that is definitely not true. The local areas between Denver and Breck are a lower economic group (for the most part) and there was some resentment of the weekenders.

As my hubby will tell you, if Im about to freeze to death, my AMex would be going with me

To Lew's point, recall the guy that died following fight at Malt Tributary on NYE and the other guy who had a fractured face from same bar, Cicily's, a week later in january. (yes I am most unoriginally changing the names of the bars, you know who they are.)

Could he have made it that night to one of the bars and left through a rear exit onto the street behind or alley..which ever it is. Maybe they (the person he met) had their car parked in back of the bar or maybe he was going to walk this person home.

Did he meet anyone Wednesday night that he took an interest in..they did arrive Wednesday in Breck right?

yes, they arrived in eve, to my knowledge they got in late, had burgers as a group and went to bed as they were skiing all day Thursday.
Theoretically yes he could have made it to another bar, cant be excluded just no proof he did?

This article makes the CC-finder sound a lot more "humble" and compassionate than those first reports eluded to. They made him sound like a reward-chaser, IMO. I would probably have picked up the CC if I came across it, to be honest. I wouldn't have expected it to be Mike's necessarily. Then I would have thrown it back down on the ground, had a panic attack, and called 911.

Do you think it's possible somebody had the card all this time, obviously couldn't use it, and then threw it there on purpose so his body might be found?

I kinda feel like if I were to dump a body I would not carry a card around, however, I'm not sure it didnt come out in a location, say a car, and it took the person some time to find it and then they placed it there.

Im just bothered by the repeated mention of the reward, and then the proximity of Mike's body. It may be more subtle than that, like somebody planted a seed with this guy- but again why would you do that if you weren't going to get some of it? He says he had 6 kids- I would ask where they were that evening. No disrespect if we may be off, it has to be checked out.

well, for sure, if this man was scrounging around the restauant/bar area looking for anything valuable, said he found like $6?, then he is obviously not in good financial shape and pretty desparate. Being a diabetic, with six kids, if he is legit, I hope he does get the $10k. But he definitely needs to be checked out thoroughly first.

I had a relative once who did the same thing...used to go on walks everyday and found some of the oddest things looking down at the ground, even quite a bit of money. He always got a chuckle out of it.

The article says he found the cc on the highway...so it was actually right on the road? Course it's possible, too, that somebody gave him the card, and told him to put it right there, so he could get the reward...I think this guy would keep his mouth shut to get $10k.
