Grandmother Arrested Charged With Child Endangerment
What you have here is generations of dysfunction. A Lorain, Ohio grandmother was arrested on charges of endangeroing her little 4 year old grandchild. A neighbor had called LE after watching this little girl try and get in her grandmom's house for hours. Cops found the child with two left shoes on, and grandmom stoned. Shawn Jones is a crack cocaine addict and alcoholic who had drunk quite an amount of beer prior to her 20 year old daughter dropping off the child the night before. Better yet was the horrendous and foul odor LE came upon while investigating the home. Tens if not hundreds of piles of dog droppings were littering the floor up in the attic. At some point good ol' great grammy came by and was furious that the dogs were being removed from the home. Ummmmmm, is this a reoccuring theme with people that neglect kids? Worry about the dogs and show no concern for the kids? This family needs some help and how. http://www.chroniclet.com/2008/04/23...h-endangering/

How sad for the little 4 year old, not only having her for a grandma, but having a mother would would drop her off knowing what that home was like.

Not only did she drop her off at the house in that condition, but it sounds like she didn't make sure the child made it inside before she left.

Why didn't the neighbors get the child and bring her inside or knock on the grandma's door for heavens sake?
IF they watched a 4 yr old wandering around alone and ignored her, they're negligent too in a sense.

A neighbor called Lorain police around 12:30 p.m. after watching the unattended child make several attempts to enter her grandmother’s home over the course of three hours....

Philamena, although I understand your point there's probably many reasons why the neighbors called the cops, and didn't take the child in. I know I wouldn't want to tangle with that lady. That'd be the type of person once she sobered up and knew you had her grandkid she'd wreck chaos on your family. I've seen this happen. I have a neighbor who felt bad for a child up the block as his mom was turning tricks in her home. She's a crack addict. The neighbor didn't want to call the cops because it would seperate the child from his mother. She fed this kid many times, brought him clothes and basically anything she did for her own child she did for this kid. Mind you child services had been involved previously and they just keep returning these kids when mom cleans up. Anyway, the mom got mad about something and has one of her crack addicted boyfriends banging this woman's door down. This is at 1:00AM. She then claimed her kid had fallen and gotten hurt at this woman's home. She was going to sue. I mean it just goes on and on. You bring danger to your own family sometimes when you do that. I think the neighbor calling the police was a good lookout although she waited quite sometime. Just my opinion from seeing how things can go totally wrong. Obviously these are not sane people.

Oh, I don't know. I would have at least sat with the child and not just watched for 3 freaking hours.
We had a similar situation where we finally took a little girl into our home until the police found her mom and bf (out drinking of course) and we just didn't want to take her in our house. This little girl seemed subjected to sexual abuse in just talking with her, but she never came out and said it. If push came to shove and she was asked by LE who touched her, we thought it would be easier for her to blame the "strangers" (us) over her mom and the bf, you know? Call us silly, but we just didn't want that trouble.
It got so late, we ended up bringing her inside with us, but we made sure our entire family was there and we just watched TV until things got settled and the police and the stupid mom got her.

You have a good family TM. Nothing silly about it. That little girl was Blessed to have you guys look out for her. The chick lives up our block is out of her mind. It's always something and since they are craked out of their minds they go on tangents. The poor kind lady helped the little kid got nothing but grief, and then had to fear for her own child. One time when we were kids my mom says to my dad "Ummmmmmm, there's a baby between the door. What do I do with him?" There was this maybe one and half year old in his jammies between the two doors. My dad is like "Oh who is it the baby Jesus?" Joking since it was around Christmas time. He looks and tells the kid to come on in. We didn't recognize the baby and my dad called cop friends. Here the mom was out running around all the blocks looking for the kid. My mom always decorated over the top so they figured the lil one was drawn to all the decorations. If that was me today I'd keep the kid out on the step and wait for the cops. Just what I'd need a baby on my doorstep. LOL My siblings and I still laugh about that. My dad not believing her.

Filly,
I understand your pov. I guess I'm thinking the same thing Taximom is. The neighbors could have talked to the child, sat with her and then called 91.
If I saw a neighbor's child alone outside more than a few mintues, I'd either go to the house or call the cops.

I hear ya, Philamena. Man, if you lived here you'd have to be sitting out with a bunch of kids. People lock them out or just let them run the streets. The weather is nice now and these kids are all just running wild. Nobody got a clue where they are and I mean little kids. Well, thank goodness the cops did come for that little girl. What her mom was thinking is beyond me.

Give the neighbor some credit she obviously watched this child for hours and made sure she was allright. That is a lot more than many people would do. There may have been altercations with the neighbor before and she didn't want to be too involved but still felt the need to look out for the little one.
