Chapel Hill, N.C. — Authorities on Thursday afternoon issued a Silver Alert for a missing Chapel Hill man who was last seen driving to a doctor's appointment in the morning.
James Thomas Horton, 78, of 1937 Mt. Carmel/Chapel Hill Road, was driving to his doctor's office on Connor Drive around 10 a.m. Authorities said they believe he might still be in the Chapel Hill area.
Horton was described as a white man, standing 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds. He has green eyes and short, gray hair.
He wore a light blue, plaid button-up shirt and long, dark blue pants. He also had on dark blue shoes and black socks.
Horton was driving a burgundy 1995 Dodge truck with the North Carolina license plate tag MVY-5188.

Horton was located 6 miles outside of Hillsville, Va., his son said. Horton's vehicle had run out of gas, and a person stopping to help him called the state Highway Patrol.
