Step-dad kills teen, self in South Merced, Mother critically injured in shooting on g

A 17-year-old girl is dead and her 32-year-old mother is in critical condition after her husband allegedly broke into a home and committed what Merced police are calling a senseless murder-suicide Sunday morning.
The crime is particularly tragic because the teenage victim was killed following her own birthday party, neighbors say. The suspect in the case was her stepfather, police said.
Merced Police Cmdr. Floyd Higdon said investigators are not releasing the names of the victims or the suspect, pending notification of next-of-kin.
Police responded to a home at 336 Serano St. on Sunday after receiving a 2:41 a.m. phone call from a woman who told police that her husband had broken into her house and was trying to kill her.
Inside the house, police discovered the body of the 17-year-old girl lying in a bed, killed by a single gunshot wound to the head. Police also found the 47-year-old male suspect lying unresponsive, with no visible wounds, Higdon said.

That poor woman. I just pray that the girl didn't know what was going on and did not suffer. My prayers are with this family.

every time i see one of these, as in this case, my first thought is that the father did something untowards with the daughter and he feared the truth coming out.

Dear Lord the man could have murdered seven other children as well. How tragic for this poor woman. This poor mother.

I work with our CPS workers. These children's well being is a priority for them. From what I gathered, there weren't any family memebers around here to take the children. I am not sure if they were able to keep them all together. So sad

Merced police have identified the 17-year-old girl who was killed Sunday, following her birthday party as Eileen Her of Merced.
Her mother, 32-year-old Neng Moua, remains in critical condition in a Modesto hospital.
